Where can I get this? I am bidding on something, but I am going away.

I won't be around. I'd like to set the amount so I don't have to worry about it.

Well, after I posted my "me too" note, I decided I should see what I could google. I used "ebay sniper" for the search and found several sites that offer a sniping service. I didn't look at all but it seems this isn't a download so much as having someone else (a computer, actually) do your bidding for you for a fee. The one I looked most closely at was minimum $.25 but usually 1% of the winning bid price. I'm not yet sure if it will be worth it for me but it might if I keep losing auctions :)

Thanks for doing the footwork on this. Dummy me didn't even think to do a search! Thanks!

I just signed up for one. They give you 4 free snipes.

http://www.auctionsniper.com. I've been trying to get a minidisc recorder to take on the cruise with us for the shows and background music. But I keep getting out bid.:(

We've used auction sniper for a couple of years now. You are only charged if you win the auction. You register and give them a credit card number and then you can put in the ebay number, make sure it is the exact item and then put in the amount you are willing to bid and when you want it to bid. It will ask if you want email notification if you are over-bid before the end of the auction.

I love it, as it means never having to worry about being around when an auction I am interested in is up and I also love that no attention is drawn to the auction until the very end, so the odds of getting into a bidding war is so much less.

No problem, mrskay9. I didn't think of looking for it myself until after I'd posted. From what I read, it sounds like it would be really useful if you can't/don't want to be at your computer right at the end of bidding. Right now, that isn't a problem for me and part of the fun of bidding at the end is to see if I can click and type quicker than the other bidders so I'll probably stay with the "old-school" style for now. :) Of course, having DSL connection helps in this so these snipers are probably even more useful for dial-up Internet users.

I've used esnipe.com several times for successful bids. I've had no problems with it.

Funny you should ask this question because I just won an auction using www.esnipe.com . I love the service because I can never remember when me auctions are ending and I don't have to worry about missing bidding on an item that I want.
