Sneezing cat...

Started sneezing quite a bit today, even though it's so hot (101 F today) we think he maybe got chilled because of the air conditioning being constantly on...never goes outside, only around one other cat (also an indoor cat), his appetite seems ok but he seems a little 'off'. I know this is a small thing but if you're the praying sort or you're a think good thoughts sort, please keep our big guy in your thoughts and prayers.

We have plans to go away after DD's graduation next Friday, lots of things to get done. DD has been under so much stress, her hs career has been - well? - ummm...problematic. The very *last* high school project is getting presented tomorrow. And I don't want to be away the end of this month and be worried...the cats always stay home and a neighbor comes in and watches them. I don't know what we'll do if he keeps sneezing.

He's a big ol' fraidy cat that's about 18 pounds, no fat either just *big*...he's so timid, he was a give-up and had UTI crystal issues at the shelter (but has been with us for a couple of years), I hate to take him to the vet, he's a lovey and he'll be scared to death, he's afraid of a crumpled-up piece of paper.

Poor kitty! It is so hard when they are sick!

If you take him to the vet tomorrow hopefully there will be something they can clear up in a few days with meds...long before you have to go away at the end of the month. Stay with him during the appt. and then he won't be so scared. They are more resilient than we think sometimes, and if this is out of character for him I would just go ahead and take him.

OP, has your cat been around any other cats recently? Did you board him? Does he go outside where he could have come in contact with other cats?

There is a highly contagious illness that affects cats call pneumonitis. My cat had it years ago. She picked it up from another cat at the vet when I had her spayed. She got extremely sick. It started with sneezing and lack of appetite. Eventually, she started drooling because she was nauseous. I took her to another vet and he said she had a very high temperature. He treated her and sent her home. He would not keep her at his office because it is so contagious to other cats. I had to take her back every day for a couple of week for treatment. She did recover.

Our cats sneeze all the time. Sometimes more than others.

No, never boarded. We have another cat but they are both exclusively indoor cats.

We have a cat that sneezes ALL THE TIME! Our vet says its just simply allergies.

He just started sneezing (suddenly) yesterday. I left an after-hours message at the vet's office & they just called (at 6:30am)- we have an appointment at 1:30. This is out of character for Ralf and I'd like to have things squared-away before the weekend. Upper respiratory issues with cats can get so bad so fast...I just didn't want to chance him maybe getting sicker over the weekend and having to go to the emergency vet, which would be even more stressful than the regular vet and would be a lot more $$$.

Plus DD is graduating next Friday & we're going away on vacation the 18th...he just *has* to be ok or things will be a mess.
