Sneakers & Suits

Likely some of the TV sports personalities get paid to wear a certain brand of shoes.
I’m certain that they are. It’s become difficult to find dress shoes for purchase. Especially in my case needing an EEE shoe. Good luck trying to find extra wides let alone triple E

Do none of you have any foot issues? Maybe you're still young.
WAIT, it'll happen.
Comfort first most of the time, for me!
Having foot issues doesn't eliminate dress shoes, especially for men. There are plenty of ways to make a man's dress shoe just as comfortable as a sneaker without making it actually look like one.

I'm female, and when I know I'll be on my feet a lot in a suit I tend to wear a more Oxford-like shoe with a chunky heel; one that looks a lot like a typical male dress shoe. The only difference is that the sole is smoother and wouldn't be good for rough surfaces, but I generally don't go trail hiking while wearing a suit.

I think that the only people who can carry off sneakers with a suit are top-level athletes; for them it is an occupational signal. The shoes are symbolic of where they draw their power, so it works; however, when Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos does it he just looks like someone lost his luggage.

DH alternates earring sneakers and dress shoes to work. He’s only in a suit a few days a month, the rest of the time in slacks. I’m currently wearing a skirt with ked like shoes. We work in higher education, I personally dress for comfort. Presentable, still professional, but comfortable. Working in student services I’m not here to impress people with my wardrobe. Come summer I’m in jeans and a tshirt almost daily.

My daughter and son-in-law requested that guests wear sneakers or casual shoes at their wedding. DH and I complied, and I estimate that 80%+ of the others did too.

I don't really care for sneakers with a proper suit, but I don't mind them with a more casual but smart, upscale look. Like with a blazer, no tie, etc. it's fine. If it's a "suit-suit" though, I prefer dress shoes.

I like that I can dress for the occasion at work, if you will. If I'm in my office all day, there's really no reason for me to be in formal wear. If I'm going to court, I will usually put a jacket on over a dress or skirt/top. Full suits are reserved for jury trials. The cost of dry cleaning makes it expensive to wear a suit regularly! Even when I'm on trial, I wear flats for the walk to court (when I'm also carrying everything I need) and then change into my heels.

Guess I’m old-school, I think if you’re wearing a suit, then dress shoes are appropriate. IMO, the whole outfit should match and be a consistent style. There are plenty of options for comfortable dress shoes, certainly for men, and women can wear dressy flats. With more casual clothes, say khakis and a button-down shirt, sneakers are okay, but still a step down from something like a casual loafer or boat shoe. Wearing sneakers with more dressed up attire, especially if they’re white or a vibrant color, just draws attention to your feet.

Generally the style is related to what type of suit is being worn. Since it tends to be favored to be a more sport coat style that goes well with the blend of casual shoes being spoken about. My husband has a mix of dress shoes and sport shoes that he wears with dress slacks and sport coats. It's incredibly popular for men to wear these including businessmen. Having just gotten back from a cruise where the dress code is elegant casual after 6 it also was the predominant style of shoes for those under 80.

I think people are associating full on suit like a more tux style fit but mostly it's the sport style that it is paired with. It's also the hybrid of tennis shoes and dress shoes as well that I vastly see out and about. The very bottom of the shoe more mimics tennis shoes, the top more dress shoes.

IMO, it just depends on whether the person pulls it off. I've seen both. Someone mentioned flip flops, I swear I've seen that as well! That does seem universally stupid. I understand the disdain even though I may not agree 100%. When it looks off, I usually think "Grow up!"

I honestly don't mind it IF it's done well. This video does a nice job of pointing out the various ways to do it right. It still won't appeal to everyone but the ones that tend to turn me off are the ones where the guys are putting it together all wrong.

The video shows great examples of someone doing the look well. My husband was in his brother's first wedding a loooong time ago. It was a glaring example of two people way too young for the institution. The look for the men was a white, short-sleeved button up w/ a black tie, black baggie shorts, and black high-top Vans. My mind's eye sees white scrunched up socks. :scared: My husband doesn't have nice things to say about the choice, but it wasn't his wedding. The pics are as ridiculous as you can imagine.

I used to help my sister out with her wedding photo shoots, her clientele covered the gamut from city to deep in the country. I saw some *really* weird wedding outfits, including all kinds of wacky variations on camo, but you win; that had to have been an unforgettable sight.

It sounds like someone thought that the valet parking staff at a "hip" beach hotel was a dressed-up look to emulate.

When DD was in high school I noticed a lot of the girls wore sneakers with their prom dresses. many of the boys also wore sneakers with their suits, mostly Jordans for the boys and converse for the girls

I think it's cute and contemporary. I bought my 27 year old several pair of "dress" tennis shoes for Xmas. He's in financial planning and can wear them every day.

Was the prom in the school gym? If so, nothing else would have been allowed.

I'm old and it looks fine to me. When doing that type of business with someone, I am far more focused on the stuff between their ears and care very little about their feet.
