Sneakers or shoes for High Arches?

I am going to WDW in December and am looking to buy new shoes for the trip soon so that I can break them in. I have very high arches(years ago when I played sports they had to be taped for extra support) and am prone to shin splints. I do like my Crocs athens but being that it might be cool, flip flop style shoes are not my first choice. Any suggestions would be very helpful

I have pretty high arches but havent had any shin splints thus far. Knock on wood. I bought my first pair of New Balance last fall and loved them. I also have a very large accheelies (sp?) tendon and cant wear anything high in the back because it puts my feet to sleep. the New Balance seemed to work real well for me. shoe shopping can be the worst shopping trip ever. Hope you get some good tips!

DH has knee problems and has to wear orthotics in his shoes now. The podiatrist sent him to a specialty shoe store to get a proper fitting shoe that will also work with his orthotics. They told him that athletic shoes are the best for him to wear, though perhaps not the most attractive or approved of in the working world. That store did sell New Balance and several other brands, I think they tend to have good arch support.

I have extremely high arches also. So high, in fact, that my podiatrist just could not stop looking at my x-ray and saying, "Wow!".
In July, I decided to try my Crocs at WDW and it was a huge mistake. They are great for standing for long periods of time but NOT for walking great distances. Not enough arch or ankle support, so I ended up with leg, shin, and back pain plus swollen ankles. The same podiatrist also warned me about this. Guess I should have listened, huh? Anyway, the best shoes I have found for lots of walking are my Rebok cross trainers. But get them now and get them good and broken in before you go. They are lightweight and will last forever. Mine are seven years old and just keep getting better!

Etonic Stable Pro running shoes or Birkenstock clogs. Both have great arch support

If you can swing the cost - Dansko brand. They are the only shoes that have yet to support my arch. I haven't yet walked all day in a pair, so I can't vouch for that. Like others that have posted here, I have extremely high arches - the foot doctor I went to was also shocked. But more than high arch, I have the smallest back-of-the-ankle (achilles tendon/heel) he'd ever seen. It's interesting that your dr recommended reebok, hunnypots, my podiatrist said that was the one brand I should NEVER buy. Seems like there is a difference of opinion in everything.

Thanks for all your advice, I am definitely going to go to the good feet website. I went to lady footlocker yesterday and asked the salesperson what she would recommend for high arches( I explained about how mine are pretty high and had to be taped, etc) and she said she really didn't have anything at the store and she has the same problem. She suggested that I buy a New Balance or Adidas running sneaker and buy an additional arch support. I do have two pair of New Balance at home that I like and wear to the gym (I just wasn't sure about wearing them to the parks because there is a big difference between walking all day and a 1/2 and hour on the ellipitical and 1/2 and of weights). I guess I am going to take her advice and go to good feet and buy inserts and wear them in my already broken in shoes. If anyone else has more advice, keep it coming THANKS
