Snakes sightings?

We saw what looked like a small python after exiting the luau at the Polynesian. ( I am not a snake expert so I don't know) When you leave the luau you are on a remote path right next to the lake. We were standing there watching the fireworks and looked down to see a 2 - 3 ft snake resting on a rock less than a foot away from us on the waters edge. I was able to take a couple of pictures of it before it went back in the lake. It was brown with black spots on it. People exiting the luau were taking off their sandals and standing in the water while watching the fireworks. Ugh, I still get shivers thinking about it. I don't like snakes either. Here is the picture. I haven't posted pics before here so I hope it works.

Disney2009

A friend of mine said that one of her friends worked at Disney for a while and his job was to go around collecting the unwelcome wildflie at the park and relocating it. I have gone to Disney since 1971 and have never seen a snake there. This is the first one.

Thanks for all of your input... I told my kids their job is to walk ahead of Grandpa and distract him if they see anything.
and not by Yelling :scared1: SNAKE!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

The picture didn't post, but I was able to view it on your picture page. That's a brown water snake. Very common throughout Florida, non-venomous, but will stand its ground and is a very aggressive biter if messed with.

This one apparently likes Wishes too!

Living in Florida, we get to see lots of critters but I would say extremely doubtful that you will see anything other than lots of lizards (Cameleons). Enjoy your trip.:cool1::banana:

I'm planning a trip at the end of January at the Treehouses. Do Florida snake hibernate during the winter? I hope so, I'm deathly afraid of them.

The kid in the pictures was bitten by a Water Moccasin. From the looks of his arm and the Mom's description, all three bites were probably "wet."

He obviously got good care at Celebration Hospital -- the treatment is classic.

I'd be amazed if they didn't get the antivenin from our Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Venom Response Bureau. They have one of the largest supplies in the world and assist patients globally. They are simply the best in the world.

If so, the paramedics from the Venom unit would have been on the phone with the doctors in Orlando 24/7 (if one of them wasn't there in person) until the boy was out of the woods.

Last year, that unit was reduced to about half its previous size because of budget cuts...but that's another rant.

But getting back to reality...you are very unlikely to encounter any kind of snake at WDW. They're there, you just won't see them. And if you do see them, they'll usually flee if they have the opportunity to do so.

One was floating in the Typhoon Lagoon "lazy river" (can't remember the name) with me about 10 years ago. We paddled away and told a lifeguard, who had it removed.

ETA there was a thread here a while back- someone found a snake in a room in the comtemporary, with a nest of eggs. Based on the floor it was on, one would guess that a guest had to bring it into the hotel. You can do a search, though personally it gives me the heebie jeebies.

Oh, yeah, I remember the story about the CR. The snake was up on top of the curtain rod.

We were feeding the ducks and birds in the morning on our balcony at OKW this past May

and then this guy showed up outside our balcony the next day

We didn't feed the birds anymore so as to not attract "undesirables"!

We saw two this July at OKW and heard a woman screaming when she saw one at the main pool :rotfl:
