Snakes in resorts/waterparks?

My wife is scared stiff of snakes, (all snakes) & is convinced that everytime we leave our room to go anywhere we are likely to be confronted by one slithering along, especially somewhere like Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. I think this stems from our very first visit staying at Buena Vista Palace, on returning to the hotel one evening security were all over the front lawn area trying to catch a water moccassin that was spotted crossing the paths. We often ask the staff if they get many sightings but they play down even the suggestion that they exist. Another occasion we came across a small snake in the hedge in UK pavilion Epcot, (opposite the pub), the area was cordoned off whilst 'reptile mousekeeping' dealt with the offending snake, he was a lively little chap rearing up out of the hedge, very entertaining.

Only ever seen one, at Typhoon lagoon, it was keeping my wife company hiding behind her sunbed while we played in the water. When more people came to look it slithered off quickly to find somwhere quieter. Plenty of lizzards around though, those are just snakes with legs!

1 at AKL when my girls (9 and 5) were doing a treasure hunt which included looking under the bushes around the pool- I hadn't even thought about snakes and was a bit taken aback about the safety of the hunt when they found one- app a dealy one!! Thats the last they took part in that!

2nd at typhoon lagoon in the lazy river we spotted a water moc just as we were geting out and had to try and get the life guards attention - she then emptied the rive so they could catch it. - nervous about our next trip back next july- I may question the CM to find out if they also like thrill rides before choosing which aqua slide I do.

DS is terrified of them, he saw one at Busch last month, took him about 10 mins for him to tell us about it.
I saw one at MK a few years back, going around on the train slowly I saw it on the ground.
I know people have seen them at the water parks.
DW saw one go under the bin outside our studio at OKW last month, I waited for it to come out for a while to try take its pic but I gave in in the end.

Just one of the creatures you might come across over there, nothing we can do about it.

We saw a few at POFQ last year. DD nearly stood on the first one lol. I don't mind as much if i know they are not venomous, but it irks me more when I dont know what they are.

Generally they are not going to bother you at all. They certainly won't chase you or seek people out. You just need to exercise some common sense: stick the the main paths, don't walk in long grass/bushes and watch where you are going. The only thing I will say about the waterparks is to make sure that you close your bags when leaving them on or beside the loungers. A few have been known to slip into people's park bags that way

Disney has a team of "Pest Controllers" I can't say I worry about it but Florida does have snakes. Some folk have been many times and never seen one.

After 8 visits thankfully I have never seen one Read a few stories about seeing them in waterparks and I do keep an eye out for them but they must stay out of my way

are you sure it was a water moccassin? it's much more common to see one of the non-venomous snakes that live in the area...
black snakes that are sometimes encountered are completely harmless, though they look scary as they're quite large...

over the years, we've come across the large black snakes inside blizzard beach (right through our legs as we were climbing the stairs), at the entrance to AK, and other places, i no longer recall..

I should have rephased it we spotted a large black snake- It was the life guard that we told that later told us that the catchers had id it as a water moc. Me I have no idea what that is - all snakes are things I get out the way off

I've seen a few but never in the heart of Orlando, only in the beach areas. You're more likely to come across lizards (tiny little things, they're everywhere). How is she with them!?!?

After 10 years of going out to Florida 3 or 4 times a year we have only had 3 incidents where we have seen snakes.

2 were at the house we stayed in on Calabay Park last May - which backed onto a wood. We saw 2 'Black Racers' - which are totally harmless to humans. apparently they are good to have as they eat all the other snakes - including the venomous ones. They were noth frightenned to death of us humans and dissappeared under the bushes and wouldn't come out once htey spotted us/we spotted them.

The other was staying at the same house a couple of years ago where we hada small Florida Brown snake in the pool - it was more like a big worm realy. We just fished him out with the pool net thing and posted him outside of the lanai.

They must have been mistaken as water mocasins aren't black

Oh tell me you weren't part of the 'toss the snake' game in the lazy river. Not sure if you read about that thread or if you starred in it but the descriptions of the events and the reactions by some of the posters made me

worse than snakes are all the disgusting bugs in florida - but that's florida, you can't get away from that...

we have deadly snakes where we live - vipers - a number of years back a child was bitten by a viper in the park across the street when he foolishly decided to explore in the bushes.....fortunately, he made it to the hospital in time to receive the anti-venom...
i've only seen one once in the 21 years i've lived here -though that once was a snake slithering on top of the wall about 15 feet from my front door (the wall around our property)....so i will admit to being pretty freaked out..
but even more freakish for me was when DS and i were tidying up the basement of our house and encountered a scorpion....
i can tell you authoritatively, it takes 20 crazed whacks with a shoe to kill a scorpion......
of course, it might well have been dead long before that, but i wasn't about to stop to find out...

Toss the snake game, unforunately I'm a bigggggggggg wimp, I can't stand spders

so I jumped out of water so quick I broke the Olympic world record

In all of our visits we have only ever seen one and that was by the pool late one night at Wilderness Lodge

Snakes are gernerally very illusive creatures and will try and avoid you at all costs

DH is usually looking for them and disappointed he doesn't see more
