I was excitedly sharing with some friends Saturday how excited I was about our first family WDW trip, and how we'd be staying at the Poly. She said just don't get on the first floor, because of the snakes! I laughed at here, but she said a friend had to change rooms becasue it freaked her out so bad when one came in the room.
Any truth to this being an issue?

I have seen snakes outdoors at the Polynesian. I have not had one in my room. I did have a couple ducks wander in to visit me though :)

EEEEEEEEWwwwwwwwww

When we were at POR last trip, we were walking across one of the pathways to our building in AB and lo and behold a snake slithered out in front of us. GROSS

Hi There,

We have stayed at the Polynesian at least a dozen times (probably half of them on the ground floor) and have never seen a snake. As Anne said, plenty of ducks will want in your room, but we have never experienced snakes thankfully.

(That would be the end for my DW!)

In fact, the only snake we have ever seen was a BIG one that crawled into the main swim area from the lake at River Country several years ago. Thankfully we were laying on the beach or my DW (See Above) would have "walked on water" to escape!

Snakes are a good thing to have around a resort.. they control the vermin (no not the pool hoppers!) I mean the mice etc... but of course - not mickey or minnie

:p

Cashew you are too funny ! Does anyone who has seen them know what type they are? Are they the harmless green garden variety, if so my daughter will probably try to find them to hold!

We've stayed there twenty some trips (closer to 30 than 20) and have always been on the ground floor. Have never seen a snake. There are lots of cute ducks. A goofy family next to us earlier this month enticed one into their room?!? What were they thinking?

Yuck, blech, ick--yep--seen them at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. They love me and I hate them with a passion--I always request a 3rd floor! LOL Although, come to think of it, I've had something dropping from trees at my feet while on 3rd floor too--just insects though!

I've not had a snake in my room or I would probably have passed out on the spot. Now, the large crows--one invited itself into the room one afternoon--in fact, took my snack with him! :D No snakes though. . .hate snakes!

Years ago we had a ground floor at the Poly and no reptiles to report, except little lizards. They were cute.

Did see a big, ugly black snake at Blizzard Beach though - he slithered in front of me and slid into the lazy river. Ewwww!

I love the little lizzards.

I thought I was going to hate them when I found out we were moving to Florida years ago. I ended up loving them. We accidentally brought one in on our Christmas tree one year and my dh had to chase it around the house until he caught it.

When we moved from FL to MI I thought about how much I was going to miss those little guys.

Plus, they eat some bugs, which is good.

I've spotted those little lizards at various spots around the world including the grounds of the Polynesian. They are so cute. Does anyone know what they are exactly?

While going to the Old Port Royale at CBR, I STEPPED on a black snake. Rolled over it with stroller first (I thought it was a crack in the promenade). We have stayed at the Poly twice and I notice everything that moves but have seen no snakes there. We're going in June and I will keep an eye out (and watch where I'm walking)... Not the Crocodile Hunter

As long as it's one at a time, not poisonous, and not longer than I am.;)

Come on, people! If you want a natural environment like the Polynesian, you have to put up with an occasional critter. Besides, Beach Club Villas has an alligator! (Not kidding.)

C'mon, people! I wanted some plausible deniability in case my wife asked me about this.
My DD7 and my wife both are braver than me with snakes, though...DW tells the funniest stoy involving me, a snake, a hoe, and my really bad aim. But, in my defense, it was a python, it was 20 foot long, and it had just ingested our pet rotweiller.;) ;)

Hmmmm... I didn't realize North Carolina had a Python problem... or was this when you were paddling up the Amazon?

>>^..^<<

Actually, it was during the time I was swimming up the Amazon while pulling my family in a non powered houseboat using only a rope clenched between my teeth....yeah, that's the ticket!:p :p :p

I suppose you don't want to hear about the time (true story) our pet ball python--Monty 4 (which tells you something about our luck with snakes) slithered away when my 11 yo DS forgot that he and his buds had the snake out and forgot when the playstation got exciting. This was in July.

In September I finally broke down and let him get Monty 5. (DS has severe asthma/allergies, so it is this or frogs to cuddle in our house.)

On New years eve I came across him and his 5 best friends all jumping up and down and raising such a clamor I thought they'd broken into the champagne. Turned out it was Monty 4, crawling out of my bookroom in the basement, 7 months after he'd crawled away. And about twice as big! One month later i had to call the exterminator to deal with all the mice we suddenly had.
