My housekeeper asked,"What is that?"
It was a frickin snake. The snake wasn't moving.I called my brother-he lives down the street. Today,he was about 10 minutes away:sad1: . He said don't let it move away because you'll never find it in the house!:scared1: :scared1: So,while I watched it,I got my housekeeper to go outside and get a mop. When she came in,the snake started to move and I was able to put the mop over part of it and it couldn't move. How I moved so fast-don't ask me-I think it was teleportation. Finally,my brother arrived and he and his 5 year old,who loves snakes, took it away. It turned out to be a garter snake but garter snake, rattle snake, whatever kind of snake :scared1: :scared1: . I almost fainted with relief.

I feel faint just hearing you talk about it. My kids are learning about snakes in school, and it gives them a lot of pleasure to torment me with their books full of pictures of those scaly reptiles. I had five first graders scaring me this morning.

If we ever had a snake, we would have to call a neighbor or animal control, because DH would probably lead the pack running down the street screaming like a girl. Maybe my 6 year old would take care of it, she takes care of all the spiders for me.

ETA - and just to clarify, this snake was inside your house? I am not sure I would be able to sleep - thinking its brothers and sisters might still be in there.

I hate snakes, so I completely understand how you felt, but you gotta admit it's kinda funny that part of the "rescue team" was a 5 year old. :rotfl:

 I agree completely! Sorry for the snake incident though. I would have pee-peed in my pants!

Oh my goodness!

Last summer I was walking in the back yard and went to step and a gardener snake started to slither ahead of me. I believe I learned to fly that day! DH laughed so hard because he said he never saw move that fast. I truly dislike snakes - any kind.

OMG!!!! :scared1: I can't believe you were able to touch it with even a mop handle! :sad2: Glad it wasn't dangerous--even more glad it wasn't me!!! ::yes::

:scared1: I wouldn't like that either!! ds6 on the other hand...he would love it!

Ok I truly feel your pain. Last summer when I opened my sliding door a snake slithered in. I screamed and jumped to the ceiling. DH came running only to chase it under the dishwasher. He took the bottom off (the whole time Im screaching like Jack on Will and Grace) and still he could not find it. I had to leave to pick up kids from school. I made him promise that he would continue until he found it and vowed that if he didn't I would not sleep until it was found nor would he. He promised to do so and I left crying all the way to school. When we got home we came in and unpacked with the kids frantically begging for a afterschool snack, so we went into the kitchen (DH was hiding at the time) and my son hops on the barstool to the kitchen bar and immediately starts screaming like a girl ..snake snake snake....(this from the boy who tried to catch a 6 foot snake in our yard the year before) The little devil had slithered over to the dog's water bowl and was trying to get a drink. I cornered him and DH came and killed him for me. I actually think he was more terrified than we were but still it creeped me out for weeks and I would beat the bottom of the door before I opened it for months.

That's better than my DH, he'd want to keep it as a pet! Over my dead body...

When we lived in FL my cat used to bring snakes into the house all the time - ALIVE! I'm not afraid of them but my mom is terrified (this was when I was a teenager). Behind our house was a canal, and on the other side of the canal was empty land. Once they started building apartments on that land, every critter that lived there crossed the canal and ended up in our yard, much to the delight of the cats. Dusty (the cat) would bring in snakes and every time, she would put them under the dining room table and keep her paw on them and HOWL like a dog until somebody came and praised her mad hunting skills. Then and only then would she surrender the snake and let you put it outside. She never killed them, and only howled like that if her catch of the day was a snake - other critters had different sounds. My mom learned real quick what the snake-howl sounded like and would send someone else to take care of it!

Been in KS for 5 years now and haven't seen any snakes.

Denae: Too funny that your 6-year-old is on spider patrol! My DD2 was wielding the flyswatter the other day, and she actually CAUGHT a fly on it! Not swatted, but somehow picked up the fly on the net of the swatter and carried it over to me. How weird is that?? And my other DD used to "rescue" roly-poly bugs when they got in the house and put them outside because I do NOT touch bugs. Snakes? No problem -- but anything with more than four legs gives me major heebie-jeebies!
