We just returned from a wonderful trip!

But, on our last day, as we were walking to the French bakery, out from a flower box dropped a black snake about 12" long who slithered along and over the grassy area!

It didn't seem to bother him that people were walking around him, he just kept heading over to the grass and disappeared.

A first for us!

Why did I think you were making a military comment? LOL!

I think if I saw a snake I would have screamed!!

;)

Anyone know what kind of snakes the black ones are? We saw a much larger one, probably 3 ft. long, when we were exiting Fantasmic one night. I've been watching out for them ever since. Diana

I'm guilty too-I thought it was some kind of reference to the current situation:o

France is full of them !!!

You're beginning to see them as we in Britain have seen them for many a year.

Ooppps , slightly off topic. Sorry.

I would have absolutely freaked out!!! I hate snakes.

What kind are these things and are they harmless?

That gave me the willies. I have nightmares all the time about snakes. Ick. I have never in all the times I've been to Disney thought about looking for snakes. I stress the entire time I go camping because I don't want to see one. I seen a snake once on our front steps sunning itself (in May). I didn't use that entrance for the whole summer!

They probably use them to keep the rodent population down. LOL

Kilee...I am with you there I had one near our door and I wouldn't go out without my hubby checking the yard first. I can't stand to see them on tv or movies or magazines or newspapers. I get nightmares too! My DH is great about it I usually throw the a blank or pillow over my face while watching tv and he won't let me look until it is all clear.

This is Florida. Wildlife is every where. What is the BIG DEAL???????????

Hey you guys black snakes are the "friendly" snakes. Wherever you find a black snake you can be sure there will be no rattlers.

Snakes give me the willies too. ewwwwwwww

It could have either been a black racer which aren't poisonous, or (especially with all of the water nearby) a water moccosin which are poisonous. The latter do get very large and can move very fast.

Here's some info:

water moccasin
or cottonmouth, highly venomous snake , Ancistrodon piscivorus, of the swamps and bayous of the S United States. Like the closely related copperhead, it is a pit viper and has a heat-sensitive organ for detecting warm-blooded prey. The young are born live. The young snake is a pale reddish brown with transverse dark brown bands edged with white; as it ages the colors dull to a blotched olive or brown and then to an unmarked olive or blackish in old specimens. The maximum length is 6 ft (2 m), the average from 3 to 4 ft (90-120 cm). A good climber, the water moccasin often relaxes on branches overhanging the water. If startled it erects its head and shows the white interior of its mouthhence the name cottonmouth. It eats both warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals. It is aggressive in the wild state but may become quite tame in captivity. It is classified in the phylum Chordata , subphylum Vertebrata, class Reptilia, order Squamata, family Crotalidae.

Oh yuck-now I'll be scouring WDW looking for snakes!! I'm really paranoid.

I'm guilty as well. I thought it was about the current situation too!!

But several years ago when we were at TL in the lazy river, my DH saw a black snake slithering out of the water. By the time I came along, it was gone. I'm sure glad I didn't see it. It would have have freaked me out!!

We had one in the water with us at BB, on the lazy river part - Ketchakidde Creek??? (note to self - better make plans for a quick trip back to WDW to find out the name ;) )

Schmeck, willing to use any excuse to get back to WDW!

Oh gross, I would be terrorized if I was enjoying the lazy river and saw a snake. That would be it for me. I am totally freaked just reading this thread. Wildlife or not, I don't accept them as part of my surroundings. I just guess I would of never expected to see on in the middle of a theme park. Maybe some of the walk ways. All's I can say is willies, willies, willies!!!
