Snacks in the parks

We were at Disney World summer of 2001. We took our camel/backpacks in the park with us...along with some grain bars, jerky, and other small snacks. It was no problem and saved us a ton of money.

My question is this......since we were there , because of 9/11, they search bags......I ask this because last month we were at six flags in St. Louis...I had 4 cereal bars and 3 candy bars in my back pack along with a towel, camera...etc. We went through security...they checked my backpack and would not let me bring in the food! Needless to say I was a mite bit ticked...so off I went back to my van to leave my backpack! Nevertheless...I did not spend one dime while I was in that park!!! I refused too...LOL...had planned on eating lunch in the park...but left and went to McD. AND I won't be back there! ( Have always visited at least one a year at one six flags or another for a one day visit...never had a problem taking in a few snacks...of course they never checked my pak!!) It was really the principle of the thing....like they were using 9/11 to make MORE money! ( I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT!!!)

I have two teenage boys that can eat their weight in food!

Sorry to ramble! I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't run into this problem at disney....I can't imagine any of the cast members being as crass as Six Flags security was!

Any information would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

You should not have a problem with that type of backpack. My DW takes crackers, etc with her all the time. She has never been challenged. DS took a camel back with him last summer without a problem.

They have no problem with you bringing your camelback. They also don't have problems with you bringing a few granola bars, Rice Krispies Treats, etc.

They DO have a problem with people bringing in a huge lunch including the watermelon (I actually saw someone stopped for that once--left me scratching my head as to why someone would want to lug around a watermelon LOL!) or a cooler, or anything on wheels that you drag along behind you.

But a few small snack type items you are more than welcome to bring in.

I too had a problem bringing a few snacks to Six Flags St. Louis. They were for my 18mth old son...cheerios..I told them he only has a few teeth what is the problem..they were in a ziploc bag? So, they finally let me through However, they didn't have a problem with a small soft side cooler with water and drinks.

Well, this gives me a different thought of an approach..we are taking 10 kids with us...crazy as that seems !!LOL!! but i was going to do one large backpack full of snacks that we could snack between changing parks..now maybe if they are going to question it, maybe i should have each child bring a small amount of snack and then put them all in a locker....has anyone one else traveled in a large group and brought a large backpack and given any greif?

as for six flags, good for you as not spending a dime there after that of the snacks,,,,they should realize the economy issues too...

A large backpack should not be a problem at all. We brought a diaper bag, a large backpack, a rather large (by today's standards- it's not a new tiny camcorder) camcorder bag with camcorder/tapes inside AND a small soft sided cooler that was kept in the stroller also. Plus the kids had their tiny disney backpacks.
Everything but the camcorder had little snacks here and there in them. The soft sided cooler had cold packs (instead of ice) that were frozen with water bottles filled with juice (for my youngest to drink from her sippy cup- we drank water there, didn't bring bottled water). One day we even brought PB&J sandwiches for the kids (they each had one in their backpack with the snacks) because after 3 days of the kids not wanting to eat their expensive meals (they are grazers and prefer to eat a little here and there rather than sit down and eat a full meal or even half a meal at one sitting LOL) I decided I might as well bring what they would eat and for a lot cheaper. LOL

They checked all our bags everytime and never said a word about the food or the juice. :)

OH and ps. they also say not to bring food or drinks into Six Flags over Texas (here in Texas ofcourse) yet they have never given me any problems with bringing in a water bottle (although I will admit it's usually empty or close to empty by the time I get there and through the line- but I refill it while there) NOR given me any problems with small snacks for the kids. Yes, I have even taken in baggies of cheerios before. LOL
I'm not sure why they didn't care- but I guess I thought it was because it was kids? I mean I might could understand if it was snacks when you are all adults- but KIDS? I mean you can't buy cheerios and stuff like that at Six Flags. LOL And adults can adjust to whatever they can buy- it's harder with babies and toddlers. They want what they are used to (or able to) snacking on!
