I'm staying at POP and won't have a refrigerator. I would like to bring snacks/small food items (like granola bars for breakfast) from home to save $$ for more interesting things (like pins:rolleyes1). Any opinions/recommendations would be much appreciated...

We stayed at POP in both 2004 and 2006 and saved lots of money and time by having breakfast in our room. Not sure if you're driving or flying, and if you're flying whether you are renting a car (I personally would not stay at POP without a car), but here's what we did.

In '04, we flew. I packed a soft sided collapsible cooler in my big checked suitcase, along with big ziploc baggies, and some plastic bowls, spoons and napkins, because we had lots of these stockpiled at home. After checking in at POP, we drove to the Wal-Mart in Kissimmee and bought the little boxes of cereal, a quart of milk, a big box of the little individually wrapped mini donuts, the little individual bottles of juice that don't need refrigeration, small bottles of water, cans of soda and a few small bags of salty snacks. When we got back to POP, we put the milk in one baggie, a bottle of juice and some water and soda in another, and filled both bags with ice. We stored the extra stuff in the opening in the combination dresser/entertainment center. Each morning and evening, we would refresh the ice, and put in new drinks as we used them. Each morning for breakfast, we had cereal, donuts and juice. We like to eat lunch early, so a small breakfast works for us. We ate this nearly every morning. One morning, we ate breakfast at the POP food court. The wait was long, the place was loud, and the food was overpriced and barely edible. (Other people love the food there, but we didn't.) We had the soda, water and snacks to enjoy in the evenings when we returned.

When we went last year, we drove, so I bought everything in advance except the milk, which we picked up at one of the on-site Hess stations. Next time I think I would just get the milk in the resort food court, because it wasn't that expensive. You could also grab some spoons and napkins there if you needed them. This time, I invested in a rolling soft sided cooler. We transported most of the snacks and drinks from the car to the room with it, and it was much easier for DH to roll the cooler to the ice machine for refills. We had this breakfast for nine mornings straight, and didn't tire of it. I would do everything the same next time, except maybe I would add some fruit, at least the little cans of fruit cocktail.

If you're not going to have a car, you could easily pack boxes of granola or cereal bars, and maybe even the cereal and bowls, then just pick up milk and juice at the food court. I see that you are going solo, so you should have no problems carrying enough for yourself. Once you use that stuff up, you free up room in your suitcase for souvenirs.

Sorry this post was kind of long, but it's my favorite money and time saving Disney tip. DH and I love the POP and wish we were there right now. Have fun!

Oops! Forgot to add the obvious...I am flying and using Magical Express, so won't have access to a car...thanks for all the tips though!

The good thing is, if you run out of snacks, or want something you didn't bring, they do have that big food court. It seemed to me that the items in the grab and go section weren't all that expensive for a resort, whereas I thought the hot items were overpriced for the quality.

We took instant oatmeal last year and used water run through the coffee pot. We also had those packs of peanut butter and crackers, granola bars, raisens, and the rice krispy snacks for our rooms. My kids are not big breakfast eaters, so a snack, out the door and early lunches worked for us.

That was what I was thinking... my son loves oatmeal for breakfast so this is a must for him. Also plan on bringing breakfast bars and small boxes of cereal (the kinds that taste good dry incase we don't have milk) Fruit snacks and crackers as well. But we are having dinners around 6 each night so we plan on a eairly lunch and then dinner and a snack at night if needed!

So much planning, good thing I still have 70 some days!!

I found these at Target in the Oats and Chocolate flavor. Only 140 calories 4grams of fat and 9 grams of FIBER. They are so good and I plan on packing some when we go in May. They are sold at the grocery stores too but they seemed to be cheaper at Target. They also have Oats and Peanut Butter but I didn't like that one as much as the chocolate which has chocolate chips throughout....Yum!

It's our first trip so I am so busy reading all the info. on this board that I don't get to post much. :thumbsup2

But these bars are so good and really fill you up because of the fiber.

The Fiber One bars are really good and I plan to take some with me, but be warned that sometimes they uh, give you gas from all that fiber.

:lmao: Yes the fiber will do that. I think once your body gets used to it that will stop.

Luckily Disney is crowded enough you can do one of these :rolleyes1

Definitely don't eat two or three a day! ;) That would be trouble.

Hi, There have been some great suggestions. My family also likes to bring the plastic Dole Fruit cups. It's a light snack and drink in one.

a great suggestion that I read a while back, which we are going to try this trip, was to pack a suitcase full of your favorite snacks and check it along with your other luggage. Then you have an extra suitcase for all your disney purchases for your return trip.

We did Cereal bars, granola bars, crackers with that can spray cheese, and poptarts. It saved us by not having to spend money for breakfast. Plus, with all the food on the DP, no one went hungry. Have a great trip!

We use a big rolling duffle to transport our food. Just be warned that if you fly, they may open that bag to inspect its contents. This has happened to us EVERY time we pack our bag of food. They just put a note in it telling us it was opened and the contents were inspected. We use those plastic ties to close the bag that way if they need to open it they can, but it keeps it from coming open accidentally. We always take extra water bottles w/ us for in the parks. I usually take a 12 pack of water and some capri suns. Have you thought about the cereal that are already in the plastic bowls? I know Target sells several different varieties of these priced anywhere from 69 to 99 cents. Another great tip that saved us a ton of money during our summer trip was to use those little tubes of drink mix. I took about 40 of those, some Crystal light, some lemonade, and some iced tea. Almost any counter service place will give you free cups of ice water, but their tap water tastes horrible: eek:. We would just use the straw to stir in a packet of drink mix and have a palatable drink for nothing :thumbsup2 well except for what I paid for the little packets at home. We did this even when we had the DDP so that we didn't waste our snack credits on drinks. We could save them for the important stuff like Dole Whips, :mickeybar and rice crispy treats. ::yes:: Also keep in mind that at a counter service, you can always buy a child's size. Some mornings, I just needed a little something to eat to hold me over until lunch and a child size waffle was the perfect amount for me.
Good Luck and Have fun planning your trip.
