While we are at the AKL, can we purchase beer or wine to keep in our room? Does the Mara or Zawadi Marketplace carry these items or do we have to order from room service? I suppose we could carry a bottle of wine with us on the airplane but if the drinks are available at the hotel to purchase, we might save ourselves some effort. Considering that this is Disney, is the cost of a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine so outrageous that we would want to bring our own? We'll be using the Magical Express so we won't have any opportunity to shop outside of WDW. Thanks

The Marketplace carries those items but they are very expensive. Mara does not carry alchoholic beverages.

DH at POFQ was buying Budweiser 6pk Cans, they gave a discount for a six pack instead of by the can, I think he paid $10.50 for the 6pk at the resort store.

Wow! $10.50 for a six pack of Bud cans makes me think that I should carry something on the plane with me.

Unless something has changed in the past month, that is not true. My DH and I bought some African beers at the Mara to take back to our room at the end of November. There were bottles of wine available also. The selection of wine is greater in the marketplace than at the Mara, but a lot of the wines they sell at the marketplace are quite expensive. Not that the beer was cheap! I think they were around $3 or $4 each.

any update on this info-- i'm looking to buy beer at Zawadi - what's the selection like - i don't like the mass-produced bud stuff-- just how expensive is a good six pack there?

The Mara had quite an extensive stock of wines, beers and other alcoholic drinks in May, all single servings though.

Claire ;)

Mara does sell wine by the bottle and beer in the refrigerated case.

You can't literally carry a bottle of wine on a plane with you - it's liquid. Liquids are allowed past security checkpoints only in limited quantities. You'd have to put it in checked luggage.

do they sell milk too? any idea on types of beer and cost of a good (eg not bud/miller) six pack?

I don't recall seeing six packs, just beer by the can or bottle, and don't know what they had besides the regular Bud products.

Call Marge Peck through wegoshop.com and have a delivery done right to your resort! We just did this for our trip and I seriously could NOT have been happier with this service! Her charge for the service is a $17 charge for orders up to $100 plus a tip of 10% of the grocery total. We had water, gatorade, mixers and vodka delivered. It was so much more affordable and easier than shopping at WDW or having to shop ourselves. Can't say enough good things about it!

Plastic bottles of Coors Light and Bud Light were $4.75 at Mara last Saturday night ~~ would have really preferred to have a nice cocktail at the pool bar but it never opened up after the rain stopped that evening.

I was there Saturday night - had a Zebratini at the Jiko bar.

is that per bottle or six pack!??

seriously does Zawadi sell six packs? anyone know what type of beer they carry?

That was per bottle (x4 in my case, lol). I had two 11 year olds with me so going into the bar for a drink just wasn't in the cards. I booked AKL for just one night after four at POP so that we could have drinks and dinner by the pool and relax after commando park touring for the previous days. It was not meant to be. The rain started at 1 pm, we left AK at 3 pm and were checked in before 4 but the rain didn't stop until nearly 7:00 but even then the pool bar did not open so we ate at Mara. Oh well, a rainy day at WDW is still better than a sunny day at work;)

too bad on the rain.. but i LOVE your last line!! i'm probably going to go with limo and grocery stop - i keep going back and forth on that vs DME and delivery.
