I just had an idea, for my upcoming trip.

What are recommendations for quick service, inexpensive snack items to experience at each nation along World Showcase. Items that reflect the host nations culture would be best.

I realize the best time to do this would be the Food and Wine festival, but thats not available, and I don't want full meal size items..

Any thoughts?

This is a fun thing to do. We did this a number of years ago (before we had kids), and if I recall correctly, we got:
Mexico - Soft taco like thing at the cantina
Norway - I am not sure Norway was done (this is how long ago it was!) - if it was, I don't recall what we got there
China - Don't recall
Germany - Don't recall
Italy - I think we ate a late lunch at Alfredo's
American Adventure - fried dough maybe?
Japan - Teryaki chicken sandwich (at this point we are stuffed!)
Morocco - Crepes from a sidewalk guy
France - Pastry from the pastry shop
UK - I can't recall
Canada - Maple sugar candy from the store (a real cop-out, I know, but at this point, we were gonna bust!)

I don't know if those things are all still there (like the fried dough and crepes especially) or if they are representative, but I think that approximates what we did. This was probably in 1988 or so.

Mexico - Churro
Norway - Sweet Almond Pretzel
China - (skip, we ate there once, never again)
Germany - (we skip this one too)
Italy - Antipasto Platter split at Alfredos
USA - (we skip)
Japan - Tempura Veggies, Sushi, Kaki Gori
Morrocco - Morroccan Coffee, Tabbouleh Wrap, Baklava
France - Anything @ Boulangerie - Frozen Cappuchino
UK - Fish & Chips
Canada - Cheese Soup @ LeCellier

Obviously this is way too much food for one trip, even when split between the 3 of us. These are just favorite snacks we have at most pavillions. We always skip US, as it's stuff we can get anywhere. We also skip China as we weren't impressed the one time we were there. We also skip Germany. We have eaten there & it was good, but other things beckon....

Nachos at the Cantina...(with a Strawberry Margarita, of course!)
Rice Pudding at Norway
Plum Wine at China (well, its a liquid snack, right? :confused3 )
A pretzel in Germany
A glass of red sparkling wine at Italy ( --- I have to wash that pretzel down with something!)
A Turkey leg or roasted pecans in the US
California Roll at Japan
A pastry in France
Stella Artoire in the UK... (hey, its been a long walk from Italy;))
Would have said a Beaver Tail in Canada, but no such luck, so I guess I will have to go inside and have some cheddar cheese soup and pretzel bread and wash it down with Maudite!)

Mexico---cheese quesadilla (yes you may order ala carte)
Norway--a bakery item
China----they have a frozen non-alcoholic beverage, but forget the name. Ds really likes it.
Outpost--icecream---recommend snickers
Germany--apple strudle, or pretzel, or go into shop and buy a piece of fudge, or at fast food restaurant get frankfurter.
Italy---they sell individual pieces of Italian chocolate in the store
American---turkey leg, popcorn, funnel cake, chicken fingers, hamburger, or hotdog
Japan---kid's meal skewer
Morocco---never snacked here
France---chocolate croussant
UK---fish and chips
Canada---never snacked here
McDonald's french fry stand

My husband and I just did this last week!!! We started at about 3pm and finished at 9, just before Illuminations. Since we thought we were so funny, we saved all the receipts. We also found it was less $$ than eating a real sit-down dinner and also way more fun.

Here's what we ate. We tried to stay somewhat authentic to the different countries. This is not the order we ate in, but the order of the countries. We also got one of everything and split it. We also didn't finish several items:

Mexico - Kids soft taco/nacho plate
Norway- School Bread
China - Egg Rolls
We skipped the Outpost since it's not really a country.
Germany- Bratwurst and sauerkraut
Italy- Cannolli
America - "Freedom" fries. (We decided they weren't french, in spite of the name! They scream USA to both of us. :earsboy: )
Japan - Veggie tempura
Morrocco- Side order of couscous salad. (The wraps looked yummy, but we were way too stuffed at that point!)
France - Chocolate crepe
UK - Fish and chips
Canada - Coffee Crisp from Trading Post. (This one was tough. There isn't really a kiosk anymore since the demise of the Beaver Tails and it was too late and we were too full to hit Le Cellier. So, we looked for something in the store that was definitely made in Canada and went with it!)

Keep us updated on whether or not you go through with it and what you guys get. We had such a great time I'd definitely do it again!

Good luck!

Wait, Stella is a Belgian beer.. doesn't that defeat the purpose? ;)

Get a Boddingtons instead!

The smoked ham sandwhich on warm pretzel bread in Germany is hard to beat....

I ALWAYS get lefse in Norway - reminds me of my childhood at Grandma's house..... Yum! :goodvibes

I always stop at Germany and buy a sausage and kraut. Of course, I must wash it down with a beer. :)

Thanks so much for the great ideas!! DH and just had to cut our budget WAY back but still wanted to "eat around the world". Great ideas!!

We did the same thing last year. We did half of World Showcase one day and came back another day for the other half. Here is a list of what we tried:
Day One
Mexico: nachos at the cantina - pretty good
Norway: rice cream - excellent; kringla - pretty good
China: egg roll - good
Germany: apple strudel - delicious
Italy: tiramisu - good
USA: smoothie - really good
Japan: yakitori - pretty good
Day Two
Morocco: shwarma platter - great; baklava - okay
France: napoleon - good
UK: fish and chips - really good
Canada: beaver tail - good

As you can see, we didn't try anything too out of the ordinary - we just wanted to snack our way around. There were three of us (DH, DD - 8, and me) and we shared portions and were stuffed. We only went to counter service places to save time. We had a lot of fun and got to sample some good food.

Mexico- nachos or taco
Norway- bakery treat or cookie crisps from the shop
China- egg roll
Germany- Chocolate or gummy bears (but might try the studel now) and DH got bratwurst
Italy-cannoli
USA-skip or funnel cake (which might be gone)
Japan-tempura shrimp, veggies
Morrocco- baklava
France- chocolate croissant
UK- Didn't like the Fish and Chips; will find a treat in the shops
Canada- will need to find something now that Beaver Tails are gone
