How much time should I be allowing to get from hotel (BWPPI) to SNA via SuperSHuttle or Disney Express....and how is the security as far as time etc at SNA? I know what the airlines recommend but I want to hear how long it REALLY takes ;-)

It will be a mid-week departure, not weekend

flight choices are departure times of:
1:10p
6:55p

Without traffic the drive itself takes 20 mins. I don't know how many stops the Supershuttle or Disneyland Express makes before heading off to the airport. Maybe it could take up to an hour?? That and factor in time of day you would be leaving (commute hour).

Oops I thought I put times in, my mistake I've edited my post to include that now!

1:10 and 6:55pm

Hmmm... so our flight home is 10:30am from SNA on a Friday and we are leaving from the Grand Californian.

What time do you suppose we would need to get on the Disneyland Resort Express (our first choice due to price)

Thanks!

If you're taking SuperShuttle, OP, go with the time they give you. They give that time for a reason; they once were picking me up what felt like WAY too early, but THEY knew how many stops they were going to make, and I got to sit in the SS van for an HOUR as they went up and down Harbor and Katella picking up more people. :headache:

SNA is a small, nice airport that's pleasant to be in. Schedule yourself plenty of time, so that you can look around and enjoy yourself while waiting.

Also, there's Karmel Shuttle in addition to the other two mentioned here, and they have been very good in my experience.

You provide your flight times when you book with Supershuttle. During the booking process, Supershuttle gives you several windows for your pick up time, based on the departure time you gave. Any of them will get you to the airport in plenty of time.

have used Supershuttle our last 3 trips and have 2 coming up in March, and always use the times they post....even during "rush hour" we had plenty of time to get through security and get our water/snacks...the airport is small, new and very well layed out!

How about Disney Resort Express? Anyone use them?

There's a schedule on the Disneyland resort express website that works back from airport arrival time so you can see what time pickup would be. I personally would aim for the airport's recommended time of 1.5-2 hours early.

With the bus you just have to look at the PDF schedule of return times from the hotels, and pick which one should get you there on time. Or follow their suggestions if they give them (I forget if they give them).

We are mega-huge-bigtime "get to the airport EARLY" people (after almost missing our flight home from LAX, thanks to a massive mismanagement of time on my part) so my idea of leavING the resort 3 full hours (or more, if the bus leaves before or after that 3 hour mark) before your flight might work for us, but might not work for others.

We actually left our resort 4 hours ahead of time on our last trip, with a rental car, because we wanted nothing but leisure without even a bit of worry. We like to be walking into an airport, ANY airport, at least 2 full hours before a flight (more if needed for our particular flight or airport), and we got there massive amounts of time early, but it was all good, because it gave us a chance to drink all the waters we still had, that we didn't want to throw away, before we went through security.

:)

I usually figure 1/2 hour to get to the airport from the hotel and I like to get there an hour and a half before my flight, so I figure my pickup time for 2 hours before flight time. This has worked well for me for many years using SuperShuttle. I leave a little later if I take a taxi. I've not had any issues with traffic delays hurting my time, even during times of heavy traffic, I think because of the special lanes the taxis/shuttles/buses use.

I know it would make others nervous, but I often give SuperShuttle a flight time that is 1/2 hour later than my actual flight time so I don't get to the airport 3 hours early. I hate that. I've never gotten there and not had at least an hour to spare so it works for me.

*Note: I often have carry-on only and always check in before I get to the airport, so I am usually not worrying about anything but the security line.

Like Molly, we also like to get to the airport early and we always leave 3 hours before our flight out of Orange County. I have never waited more than 5 minutes for security there, I know that was one of your questions. They recently added a whole new 'wing' to the airport so on our return flight this time we will have places to explore.
