SNA or LAX?

This is making me so sad. :o( Southwest changed our previously scheduled nonstop from Chicago to SNA into a flight with stops, so we called to reschedule. We are now flying nonstop from Chicago to LAX. Hopefully it won't be too bad - I don't mind big, busy airports. We really wanted those nonstop flights!

Well, like as in all trip planning, you have to make adjustments and changes, and know you won't get 100% of what you want.

So with flights, for some, a Non Stop (or at least direct) flight is important, for others it is a specific airport.

Sorry you were forced to make a choice. As much as I try to avoid LAX, I do use it when needed, and "just deal with it".

But heck, you are headed to Disneyland!

from the maps it looks like LAX is farther but for our routes it's cheapest to go into LAX,so we just suck it up and go thru there....

Yes, LGB and SNA are about 14 miles away, and less than a 30 minute drive on average.

LAX is about 35 miles away in driving distance. And since you are going through parts of LA and its traffic, 45 minutes is without traffic, but usually over an 1 hour drive away.

Also if you opt for a rental car, LGB and SNA rental car offices and pick up lots are right next to the terminal. LAX requires all rental car companies to be off property, so you need a shuttle just to get your car.

I cannot stand LAX. I would look into Long Beach LGB is possible. SNA is good but Long beach is the best.

I second this. We have done LGB and SNA. Taxi from SNA. Shuttle from LGB. I hate LAX with a white hot passion. But then I hate traffic, so....

Remember to add in associated costs... For me, LAX used to be the cheapest. But then I had to add $65 for the DLRE bus (I refuse to ride in a large passenger van for safety reasons, and a taxi is $105 or so each way). When comparing the end prices, including the transportation to/from the airport/resort, the cost savings quickly disappeared, since it was about half as much for transportation to/from SNA.

LAX is awful, but for a few hundred bucks savings I'd still fly there over the other airports. At the end of the day, it's an airport and it serves it's purpose, but I'd choose the others first if the price was similar.

Did they change your return flight too? It's worse departing than arriving, such a boring airport!

we will likely do LGB. thank you to darkbeer1 for bringing that option up!

it's waaaay cheaper than Alaska into either LAX or SNA. flight times are a bit limited, but we will make it work out. plus, I just called our van guy (we always use him when we go to DL and he's picked us up from SNA the last few times), and he said he can come and get us from LGB, too!

SNA for me all the way. I've been stuck too many a time in traffic by LAX, it's farther away too. LAX is usually a bit cheaper for me, but I'd pay the difference by paying more for a cab or shuttle. Plus SNA is smaller and security's easy and quicker in my opinion.
