Smugmug

Like Mark said, with Photoshop (Elements, CS2, CS3) you need to download the Camera RAW plug in from adobe. Photoshop alone cannot process the RAW files.

Yes, you usually have to process and convert it to jpg to share it.

In order to upload to Smugmug, you'll need to save them in PS to a JPG, then upload.

As stated, go to adobe, download the RAW converter for the software you have, save to JPEG, and then upload to smugmug. It is really pretty simple.

You also need to know that the RAW format did not apply any of the image settings like your camera would for JPG. That means that there were no applications of sharpening, contrast, noise reduction, white balance, etc. You have to do these things to the image in the processing software. Almost all of the processing software does have an auto mode, but it sometimes is way off, so check your shots before finishing.

What kind of camera is it? You shouldn't have to download anything for most cameras as CS2 shipped with a lot of RAW converters.

Irfan view is a free program that will allow you to read RAW formats and convert if necessary.

Here is a direct link to Adobe's page for their the RAW plug-in, including download links.

I believe that it, like other raw converters, will use the settings you had on the camera as defaults for conversion, ie, if you used a custom white balance, it will attempt to use that rather than just a default one.

Irfanview can indeed view and convert RAW files but I don't think that it gives you much control over how to process them. But I still couldn't live with Irfanview to help me with my JPGs. :)

True, you really can't manipulate RAW in Infranview, but as a last resort you could convert your RAW files to JPG.

In the old smugmug version....before the last upgrade, I used to be able to view EXIF data in a text version rather than the graphical pop up window that smug mug uses now. Anyone know if there is a way to get back to the old version??? I can't copy and past EXIF data with the newer pop up window.....grrrr....

Ive just recently opened a smugmug account so didn't realise there was an earlier version where you could copy and paste the exif details. I agree it would be handy.
Try sending them an email. I did regarding another matter and got a reply within a couple of hours.

On the graphical pop up there are three areas you can click. You can click Basic or Detailed to have the pop-up show you basic or detailed EXIF. But you can also click on the words "photo information" and a new window will pop up that you can copy and paste it like this:

Thanks so much for sharing this!! I had 6 days remaining on my free trial, and although I loved the site, I wasn't sure it was worth the $40 cost. I used the code and got it for $20 instead! :cool1: Now, of course, I'll be hooked and have to pay the full amount next year, but at least I get it cheaper the first year! :> THANKS!!

Dang, it didn't work after all. My confirmation email said I only got $5 off. Although the page I purchased it on said $19.98. Grr. Oh well.

first off thanks for sharing this code! i've been checking out their service for a couple of weeks now :flower3:

i just signed up and when i filled out the info on the sign up page it showed the price with the discount in parenthesis next to the regular price, but in the email i got it makes no mention of cost. it didnt even ask me to put in a card number.....i guess i get the 14 day free trial before it asks for payment? :confused3

Apparently it didn't take for me because I signed up for the free trial before I had the code. I emailed them and they told me to reply with the code and they would fix it for me. :thumbsup2

Hi all! I'm setting up my smugmug account later this weekend and was wondering if anyone had a discount coupon code I could use? TIA!:)
Blessings,

If anyone else wants to save $5 off their Smugmug membership fee, you can use my code too.
