Crowds were decent yesterday and remained so until I left the park at around 2:00. We rope-dropped Peter Pan, which I rarely do since the imposition… sorry, introduction ;-) of the early entry. We were the first from the rope to the line and only waited about three minutes. Usually the wait is closer to ten or fifteen minutes at RD.

We did a few other things and then my friends suggested we ride Casey Junior. I never knew that you can ride in the back and face backwards, which is what we did. It was almost like a different ride being able watch everything with zero obstructions.

Did Buzz only about four times. The scoreboard wasn’t working so half of the thrill of getting a good score was lost… even though on one game I nearly broke 2M.

I don’t often visit Galaxy’s Edge but lately I’ve been trying to do different things. I got in the single-rider line and there was virtually no wait. But as many of us know, being a SR on that attraction usually means that you’re relegated to being an engineer. I was concerned that I’d get motion sickness from being in the back and my fears weren’t unfounded. At the part when you sort of crash land, everything seemed OK but then the entire ship fell into a cavern or something. That’s when the motion sickness hit hard. Never in my life have I been sick on a ride at DL. But I came dangerously close yesterday. Fortunately, I had a plastic bag in which I carry my lunch. I would have used it if necessary as an “airsick bag.” I’ve been on Smuggler Run before but I was a pilot. For some reason, I handle that position far better than being an engineer. As a kid I used to get carsick regularly and the doctor told my mother that sitting in the front seat made it a lot better. I presume the same principle holds for SR. At the point where the single-rider queue joins the main one I did ask if I could be closer to the front but the CMs told me that I had to take what was offered. Lesson learned.

Shortly after rope drop I met a pair of really cool women while in line for Snow White. I’d never seen them before but they told me that they also come every Sunday. Not sure how we’ve never met before. Later in the day I ran into them again and we talked for about half an hour. I love meeting new people and yesterday was a great day for it.

I replenished my supply of maps. If anyone would like a set, simply send me your preferred mailing address and I’ll drop one in the mail.

My big challenge now: getting a reservation for August 20: the day of the CHOC Walk.

Some pics.

What’s the CHOC walk? I noticed Aug 20 was sold out already for the enchant key and wondered why. Aug 21 is as well. Is something going on that day to?

Here's info on CHOC walk: https://www.chocwalk.org/ It's a fundraiser organized by Children's Hospital of Orange County, where people sign up for a walk-a-thon through DLP (and maybe DCA?) before they open for the day.

The back of Casey Jr is my favorite spot! I recently went to Disneyland Paris and rode their version of Casey Jr, which is a little more of a roller coaster like Gadgets or Goofy's Barnstormer, and I was very happy to get the back caboose. It was a bit of a wild ride.

The motion sickness thing probably has to do with how close you are to the axis of motion. I don't know wheret that is on MFSR, but on Star Tours I do notice that if I sit in the back or closer to the edges, I can get a little queasy (not really motion sickness, just a tad uncomfortable). This is becuase those areas actually move more. I can imagine that MFSR is the same.

AHa, that is why Aug 20 is being tricksy! It’s also the first weekend for Enchant availability after being blocked all summer, apparently.

I get motion sick too. The Scopolamine patch was a life changer for me. I can now go on rides I haven’t been able to go on for years. I haven’t tried Space Mountain or Incredicoaster yet though, still too cowardly to try those!

Managed Expedition Everest though! And Smuggler’s Run was a breeze. Even seated in the back!

CHOC walk is a fundraiser for COC (Childrens Hospital of Orange County). The walk is pre park hours (starts about 6 or 6:30 and goes through both parks. There are lots of rare characters out waving (or available for pictures too). It is the first one since 2019 (2020 and 2021 were virtual and 2022 was a special after hours party that was amazing). It is a really uplifting and wonderful experience. i will be walking with my friend to celebrate her nephew's memory who was a long time CHOC patient who battled Neuroblastoma 3 times before losing his battle 5 years ago. Many families who walk buy tickets and stay after the walk to enjoy the day at Disneyland. There are many like me who do not though. It is usually a pretty busy day in the parks.

The photos as always are great! Love the one of Capt Hook- have a soft spot for that character, gave me a rose once and totally made my day! Sorry about the queasiness...certain rides get me too!

Woo hoo! With the help of a friend on the board, I was able to get my CHOC Walk reservation. I've now got the following six Sundays scheduled (as I usually do).

Incidentally: if anyone's interested, my true story about a man who murdered his wife (and tried to make it look like it was an intruder) is included in this week's Risk! Patreon podcast. You can listen to it here, if you so desire. There are three storytellers in total and my story begins at 6:27. I was working at the then-new Chicago Emergency Communications Center (i.e., 911) at the time.

As an aside, I became good friends with one of the veteran cops I met there. He'd retired from the CPD as a homicide lieutenant. We'd often go to The Moth open-mic storytelling slam together. He had tons of great stories, won the slam several times and published his book On Being a Cop around the same time. In the seventies he'd worked the Donald Lang homicide case, which went on to some notoriety since Lang couldn't speak, hear, sign, read lips or communicate in any way. Under those circumstances, it was impossible for him to form a defense. They made a few TV movies about it, one of which I saw as a kid. I never imagined that I'd go on to be good friends with the lead detective. Sometimes it's a crazy world in which we live.

Great photos as always!:thumbsup2
But wow, New Orleans square looks packed…:scared1:

That smugglers run triggers your motion sickness doesn’t sound good… it’s interesting though that sitting in the back of a simulator is just as bad as sitting in the back of a car… weird how the human body sometimes works…

Now, after reading your nice report I get back to work :coffee:and keep counting days/hours till I arrive at DL next week…::yes:::donald:

It wasn’t as bad as it looks. I promise :-).

Feel free to find me and/or shoot me a message if you’d like to say hello (and if you’ll be there on a Sunday). As I recall, me met up once about a year or so prior to the pandemic. Hope you have a fantastic time on your visit either way!

For motion sickness, check out the Relief Band. I hate taking dramamine, even the non-drowsy stuff. The relief band wasn't cheap, but it works like charm. It sends electrical pulses into the pressure point on your wrist. I only have to turn the power up about 1/2 way and I'm good to go. Motion simulators usually make me very queasy, even a field trip to the IMAX theater I had to close my eyes. With the relief band, I was fine. I still will not go on anything that spins, but that's from PTSD after a ride at six flags.

I've definitely felt motion sick on Smugglers. I avoid it for that reason, but I like the queue.

I actually did need to puke on the swinging cabin on the former Mickey's Sun Wheel. Luckily, that happens often enough that air sickness bags are in the cabins!
