I'm trying to think of new and exciting and filling breakfast ideas and it came upon me-smoothies! I'm going to try one with banana, orange juice, ice, and maybe yogurt if the yogurt is good.

Anyone else have any smoothie ideas?

I do a lot of smoothies but I always use a lot of protein powder. If you can find a good tasting protein mix (there are several out there), you can really make some great smoothies. My favorite protein mixes are Champion and Dymatize(?). Banana is awesome. You can take the banana mix, put some peanut butter in there and a little hershey's syrup. Throw in some ice and you have a great and healthy meal. I also know a lot of people who will mix oatmeal into a smoothie / shake with their protein mixes to make a breakfast. Oh yeah! Lean Body has a breakfast mix that has 35 grams of protein, 40 grams of carbs and 7 grams of fiber. You can get them in blueberries and cream, bananas and cream and apple cinnamon. They are wonderful. They are also thick so you might want to add a little extra water to them. Also, a little tip. If you can mix it the night before and put them in the frig overnight, they taste wonderful in the morning.

Hope that helps!!

The Curves diet book has a recipe. I/2 cup skim milk, one container of any fruit on the bot :thumbsup2 tom low fat yogurt and 1/4 cup berries (straw or blue or rasp). I use frozen berries. Blend. Yum!

Adding protein powder to the smoothie is a great suggestion. It's important to get protein first thing in morning. A smoothie consisting of just yougurt, milk and fruit is loaded with sugar, and is not a great meal choice.

Where do you buy the protein powder? GNC? Do they sell it at Wal-mart?

You can get protein powders from several different places. I am able to get mine from a nutrition store that sells wholesale. GNC has a good supply but it is really over priced. A couple of suggestions would be a local nutrition store, Wal-Mart is a possibility, or even the internet. You could go to several different sites to get protein powders. A couple of my favorites are Champion (there Banana Scream is awesome), Dymatize and Lean Body by Labrada. Out of all the different powders that I have tried, these are the best tasting with the lowest amounts of sugar and fat. Hope that helps.

Tiger,
I love smoothies. I dont have them all the time but some mornings I do. In a blender, blend together ice, strawberry yogurt, frozen strawberries and a frozen banana. It is so good... Also, sometimes you can add the instant breakfast powder that they have to give it more flavor.
At night when I get home from the gym I usually mix together chocolate soy milk and the protien powder w/ ice. OMG, yum!

Smoothies are awesome and have been a wonderful addition to my diet. I firmly believe that they have helped to curb my appetite and the protein boost has really helped me to add muscle to my frame. Here's the way we make them...

1/2 cup skim milk
1/4 cup fat free plain yogurt
1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1/2 banana
6 or so strawberries
1 tbspn ground flax seed meal
4 ice cubes

Throw it all in the blender and go on a lower speed until the ice breaks up and then the highest speed to really froth it up. The volume will appear to triple and it's really very filling.

I have 1-2 of these everyday....one as a mid-morning snack and one around 8pm or so as my final snack of the evening. You can substitute any kind of fruit you like....peaches are great, blueberries are awesome too!

My favorite is really simple.

1 banana
1/2 cup pineapple
protein powder (I like Shaklee, but just keep trying until you find one you like)
1/2 cup water (or pineapple juice)
3 to 4 ice cubes
1/2 tsp coconut flavoring (optional)

It's my own Pina Colada breakfast...yummmm :thumbsup2
