Smoking & stroller wagons banned May 1!

Keep reading this board regularly -- I've seen lots of comments/complaints (some fairly recently) about drunks and other alcohol-related problems in the parks. When the Mad T Party was still going on, there were lots of complaints about underage drinking and rude/drunk guests in that area. My most recent experience with problem guests and alcohol happened in DL where it was clear that guests had smuggled in alcohol. Security took care of one of the problems.


Does drunken barfing in the parks count? Someone was sneaking drinks from a smuggled flask at the Royal Swing Ball, got drunk, and hurled all over the floor, sharing the experience with all the dancers in the immediate vicinity. (Keep in mind that most dancers dress up for this event every week.) Yeah, second hand alcohol... not fun times. CMs did call security for this one to escort the person out.

I remember those nights. Those parties would get ugly fast!

I don’t insist that it’s accurate but she works in ticketing and that’s what she tells me .

A note about my one personal experience with ECVs: when my mom was 80, she wanted to go to the parks with us while my youngest girls were still young. Due to mobility issues, I decided to rent her an ECV and ordered one from Deckerts. It was delivered to GCH for us and off we went. Except the thing was so sensitive that it would lunge forward and it went fast! There was very little speed control, so it was immediate lurch and then zoom, you were speeding. My mom was terrified and so were we! We thought she just needed to get used to it, so we tried to give her a chance to do that on our way to the parks. There was a switch to slow it down so we put it on slow. She lurched and had some near misses with people and planters, and all of us tried to get it to work better with no success. We were afraid someone was going to get hurt; it was dangerous to her and everyone in her path so we called the company. They offered to bring us another one the next day but by then my mom refused to even consider an ECV. We got a wheelchair instead in the parks and she was so much happier. In my limited experience, wheelchairs (push kind) are much safer in crowds. I pushed it and while there were people who would run in front, as many have mentioned, it was much easier not to ram/hit them. It WAS a workout for me, though. I never realized how many uphills there are and my mom is quite a bit larger than I am. So while I think non-electric wheelchairs are safest, they do require someone strong enough to push them! The other downside is that the Disney ones are not allowed out of the parks, or they weren't at that time. We couldn't take mom back to the hotel in the wheelchair. That was before they changed security so maybe that's no longer true. I am curious whether that was a fluke and our ECV was just not functioning correctly or if that's they way all of them operate.

While it may be "legal" in the state of California, like mentioned earlier in this thread, it is illegal to consume it in public. This is not hypocritical, this is the law.

Fair enough. I think we can all agree that we want adults to act like adults. Whether it's smoking a joint on a hotel balcony or out of control drinking, it has no place in a family environment.

Out of control drinking - absolutely. However, most people can have a glass or two of wine (or a beer, etc.) and continue to act in a civilized manner. In my many trips to DLR, I have never seen anyone act out of control/obviously drunk. Perhaps I'm lucky.

Does anyone have any insight into how they are going to measure strollers? We are going may 1st and have a double jogging stroller. I measured it and it is right at 31” but I’m wondering if I’m going to be questioned each time we try and enter because it’s so close.

I am curious whether that was a fluke and our ECV was just not functioning correctly or if that's they way all of them operate.

Two things - First, this was likely a misfunctioning ECV. I have had one do something similar, and Deckert's had me go to the Grand and swap it out immediately. I've been using them for 10 years, so I do know how they should work, and knew right away this wasn't right. When they are on Turtle, it goes very slow. Since I have been using one for so long, I do keep mine on high, however, I am usually going no faster than my daughter walks.

Second - I know you stay onsite most of the time. If you were staying onsite, you can ask if they have a manual chair available. We have received them many times and they tag them so they can return to the resort hotels. In 2015, when my daughter broke her legs, we had one manual chair in the room, then had an ECV for use outside the room.

It has been said they will have a metal device that the stroller will need to fit in.

I don't hear people complaining about alcohol consumption in DCA. Disney even celebrates it during the Food and Wine festival. But, when it comes to legal marijuana, it's banned from the parks. Hypocrites!

I agree that the smell can be obnoxious. But why ban vaping or edibles and celebrate alcohol? Maybe it's because Disney can sell a beer for $10 and they are not allowed to sell marijuana.

The reason I do not complain about alcohol consumption in DCA is because it is affecting the person who is drinking, not everyone around them too. I won't get cancer from someone else drinking alcohol, but I DID get cancer from people smoking around ME, so, that isn't be a hypocrite at all. Also, regular smoking cigarettes has been banned in many places in CA for YEARS, so, smoking/vaping ANYTHING should and is now banned in DL.

Same, ours by listed specs is right at 31" but it would make me nervous to take it if it's a metal device to fit in and I'm 1/4" too big or whatever


ETA: how wide are the wheelchair entrances at the main gates? I feel like our stroller at 31" wide has generally just squeezed in smoothly...I wonder if they could use those as a gauge?

Yeah ours fits through the normal entrance gates between the CMs who are taking tickets. But I’m thinking they would want to stop people before that point? Maybe?? I don’t know.

Rumors have the stroller checkpoints being located at bag check, which makes sense. That way guests could still take oversize strollers back to the car before getting on the tram or on the shuttle. If that rumor is accurate, then there would also have to be a stroller checkpoint at the bag checks where guests walk in, too.

Wow, that's terrible! What did the CM/Security do when you reported this? Hopefully they were kicked out.

The drunk guests were taken out of line and our family was also taken out of line to get him cleaned up. Disney got him a change of clothes as an apology, which was appreciated but still kind of upset him for the rest of the night understandably.
That was probably the worse interactions with drunken guests as it directly impacted a family member, but we have seen our fair share of unruly intoxicated guests.

I agree there should be a way to limit drinks per day by tying it to park tickets i know that won't solve the whole problem but might help with over serving.

I'm sorry to hear that you got cancer from second hand smoke. That's completely unfair. Congrats on beating it!

So it seams we can all agree, just allow edibles.
