Can anyone quote the official smoking policy? IMHO, smoking in a confined indoor space is very rude and selfish. What is the policy, because I don't want to be subjected to it.

I know they can smoke out on verandahs which can TOTALLY ruin a non smoking neighbors verandah time...but there was no smoking in shows or at dinner or at the Mickey pool..

as far as I know, and someone correct me if I am wrong,

Smoking is NOT allowed:
Main dining areas
Shows/Theaters
Promenade Lounge
Pool-side
inside staterooms

Smoking IS allowed:
Private verandahs
on deck 9 and 10 is designated areas
inside clubs at Route 66/Beat Street

IMO, smoking was always worse in Wavebands, never as bad as your local club or bar, but at times fairly noticable.

I never noticed it in the Dueling Piano's bar much. And I never have been in the other club to know.

Smoking is prohibited in all staterooms, except private verandahs.

It is not allowed in any restaurants, theatres or inside areas.

It is not allowed in the Promenade Lounge.

It is allowed in designated areas on open decks (not allowed at all at the Mickey Pool) and in designated areas of the three clubs in the adult nightclub area.

They didn't used to allow smoking in the comedy/dueling pianos clubs, but I don't know if that has changed, since we haven't been in there in a while. In Rockin' Bar D/Wavebands, choose a seat on the side farthest from the bar...otherwise, the smoking area will be right behind you. Being in "non-smoking" is sort of pointless when the people at the table right behind you are puffing away. But overall, Disney is pretty non-smoker-friendly (or at least compared to RCCL...I have allergies that are triggered by excessive smoke, and I spent a whole cruise on Sovereign of the Seas barely able to breathe!). I like the fact that smoking is forbidden in the staterooms, as they never have that awful stale smoke smell. But I know there are rude rule breakers because we have been in staterooms with burn marks on the dresser...those are the sort of people that give smokers a bad name.

I expected it in bars and casino, but was worried about deck areas. On our recent cruise you could only smoke on one side of the ship and then only in certain areas. I always made sure to avoid them and was never bothered.

I did not see it mentioned but I also believe smoking is allowed in the ESPN Skybox, correct ? I have a daily cigar or two , I would never consider smoking one in one of the regular clubs out of courtesy but was told cigar smoking is common there.

I'm a reformed smoker (yeah, the worst kind) and don't enjoy being around smoke... I actually cannot breath and choke up......

So when I'm out on my verandah, how bad would it be if my neighbors were smoking on their verandah?

thanks, Jeanny :-)

Jeanny, kind of hard to answer that , if the ship was at sea I don't think you would notice it much, if at all. At port it would depend on the wind.

Our neighbor was a chain smoker and she was on her verandah puffing away seemingly all the time. It was very noticeable when we were docked, and barely noticeable at sea. I have dreadful allergies and it really bothered me.

I did not notice smoke anywhere else on the ship, except for once on Deck 4 there was a group of guys with cigars. I am like the "smokehound" so believe me, if it was bad, I'd tell you.

We did not go to the clubs except for the family shows like Dueling Pianos and there was no discernable smoke there either.

I was THRILLED!!!

Cigar smoking is allowed in the ESPN Skybox.

They had a hot dog roaster and make your own nachos there if you're looking for a snack while enjoying your smoke.

My neighbor in the Disney Suite smoked on his balcony, but he would generally be on the far end of his quadruple wide, and I could barely smell it when I was trying, even when we were docked. I'm sure the folks on teh other side probably could smell it more than me though.

Luckily he wasn't a chain smoker :) He seemed to be considerate about it...

So are there areas of the ship where cigarette smoking is allowed but not cigar smoking???

I don't touch cigarettes but I do enjoy the occasional cigar. I actually think that cigar smoke is more pleasant than cigarette smoke.

Thanks :smooth:

I have never smoked in my life and am VERY sensitive to it. However, I share your opinion that cigar smoke is more pleasant (or in my case, not as bothersome) as cigarette smoke. The only exception would be smoke from bad cigars - those that have a "sickly" (IMHO) scent. But the scent of a "good" cigar (and its smoke) is not nearly as irritating to me as cigarettes.

On the 1/25 cruise, we noticed that there was quite a bit of both cigarette and cigar smokers. There was one particular "gentleman" that had a nasty cigar glued to his mouth at all times and spent just about all of the cruise circling the quiet cove pool deck. We never even bothered to go to the Rockin D nightclub as it was extremely smokey every night. We spent evenings at Off Beat with Dueling Pianos. Not only is it an excellent show, it is also smoke free.

I am very sensitive to smoke and it makes me ill, (asthma etc) so I wish that DCL would make the ship "smoke free" including nightclubs and allow it only in designated areas. That way, smokers would be able to smoke in an area that they would feel comfortable in but the rest of us would not be subjected to breathing it. This is not to start a debate, just my opinion.

4cruisin - I REALLY LIKE your opinion!

what you need to do is be a proactive non-smoker... if enough non-smokers sit in the smoking section, then there is no place for smokers to go. Have a non-smoker invasion of the smoker territory :)

"Excellent idea.......I agree 100% also. And if DCL took a survey they would see the numbers that would support this idea.

What great ideas!!! I know smoking is such a hot topic these days!! I totally agree with everyone!!!

In this day and age, where non-smoking restaurants, buildings, schools, colleges, offices, etc are the norm, I would think Disney would apply the same rules on their ships as they try to do in their parks (not that they enforce them that well). It seems like they do try to limit the areas where smoking is allowed on their ships, but it shouldn't be allowed near pools, quiet, adult, children, etc. at all. I'm glad to hear Dueling Piano's is/maybe non-smoking, as I really would like to see that show.

These are just my opinions.....but I'm so glad I am not alone on this thread.
