Are the smoking rooms all together?

Has anyone been bothered by smokers on adjacent balconies?
I plan on spending more time than usual on the balcony at this resort and This is a concern of mine.

I didn't smell any smoke from the other side of my balcony but I was in the non smoking section so i don't know if that is the reason why I didn't get the smell.

If my memory is correct I thought the balconies at the AKL had no smoking and no feeding the animals signs on them. I could be incorrect as we stayed there in 2001. Anyone who has stayed at the AKL since then remember the signs on the railing of the balconies?

We stayed there and yes the smoking rooms are all blocked together, and there is no smoking on the balconies that have savannah views.

I remember the signs on Pool View balconies. Both rooms were non-smoking rooms though.

pollyanna, It's my understanding from the AKL FAQ that there is no smoking allowed on the balconies. When we stayed there (2001), the concierge staff actually gave us a non-smoking room knowing that we would smoke on the balcony only.

We asked about this, and were told that it would be "no problem". I'd love to know what the final word is on this.

edited to say: Ours was a Savannah view room.

Hmm, I had a savannah view room in August (2nd floor) and there was definitely a no-smoking sign on the sliding glass door leading to the verandah. It was a non-smoking room as well.

It seems like it would be dangerous to allow smoking on the savannah-view verandahs with the animals and all the grasses on the savannah.

WebmasterMichelle, Yes, I think it would be dangerous if one threw one's butts or ashes over the verandah. Housekeeping brought us up ashtrays, however, so we used those.

We had a smoking room & I don't remember smelling any smoke from nearby rooms (which were also smoking). Our hallway was smoky, but it didn't bother us. We're used to the smokers in DH's family.

I did notice a lot of smokers at the AKL. Anyplace outside by the pool was fair ground for them, and it seemed they were everywhere, all the time! It didn't bother me, but it was unusual enought that we all noticed. We didn't see this at the beach club pool areas. I think it is just the way the resort is set up, and the no smoking on the balconies thing.

This is what we were told also.

I think Disney is in the habit of telling people whatever they want to hear.

Hopefully, some day all WDW resorts will be non-smoking in the near future.

We had a non-smoking savanna view room, but directly across from us was another guest smoking on their balcony and I guess the wind was blowing just right because it was definately bothersome. Surprised me.

Gillian is right about the pool area and my DS has terrible upper-respiratory problems so it was hard to find a place to sit if the kiddie pool area was filled. I think they also sell cigars at the pool bar.
