smoking issues

I hope there's nobody smoking in the verandahs next to mine, but if I do run across that I think I'll probably just blast my offensive music in their direction.

I hope that you are joking, because if you are not, I take quite an offense to this. My DH and I are smokers, very considerate ones. If I was outside smoking and it bothered someone else, I would either move or put it out. Now that doesn't mean that just because my smoke free veranda neighbor comes out, and I am already out there smoking, that I would immediately put it out. But if I go outside and the neighbor is already there, I would not light up.

I can only speak for myself and not all smokers, but I do understand that you don't like the smell or you are allergic. I am very conciencious(sp?) of this.

But don't hate smokers, many of us are wonderful people!!!! :sunny:

I've discovered that to be true, most smokers are very considerate. Once in a while you get someone belligerent. I'd suggest approaching a neighbor on a veranda with "will you knock on my door when you get done with that cigarette" - giving them the chance to enjoy what they have started and letting them know you don't value your enjoyment of the veranda more than theirs.

I wonder - as most cruise ships have a lot more smoking going on all over the ship - if smokers are occationally "caught by surprise" by the few opportunities they have to feed their monkey.

I like the last idea. We are smokers and always looked to see if verandas next to us were occupied before smoking. It never happened. BUT..IF there had been someone there, we would have asked if smoking would be a problem, if so we would have gone elsewhere, or just waited until we were "alone". We understand some people do not wish to be exposed to smoke and try to be "polite" smokers.

I am very sensitive to smoke, but in my experience it's only been a problem when I have smoking neighbors who stand right by the rail rather than just sitting on the balcony. On one trip, we were miserable because we had chain smokers next door who not only were out there every time I came out but who always made sure to stand in our corner! I think maybe the ashtray was mounted there. Ugh! I know it's their right to smoke there, but that was a miserable trip...I missed my quality verandah time. The last two trips, we've had people with screaming kids on the verandahs and I'd take that over smoke any day.

everyone needs to be polite, and keep in mind that we are all trying to have a good time. I would hope that if there was a problem it would be worked out like adults.

Sadly, smoking on the Magic and Wonder is allowed in sections of EVERY adult lounge after 9 pm. Unfortunately the smoke doesn't stay in the smoking areas, so the adult lounges were useless to my wife and I, and still smelled of smoke during the day for family activites.

When we cruised on the Amsterdam, there were adult areas that allowed smoking and some that didn't, so you could avoid the smoke. However, the sports bar that allowed smoking, was next to the casino that allowed smoking, which was next to the shopping mall and on a main throughway on the ship....so there were times you could not avoid the smoke.

Yes, I am passionate about smoking. My dad smoked 2 packs a day and died from lung cancer when I was 9. Even though that was 38 years ago, my tolerance for smoking hasn't grown. Plus, being in California, you can't smoke anywhere here indoors anymore, nor within 25 feet of any building entrance.

Bad news TVGuy, it's not after 9 pm anymore -

SMOKING AREAS
Diversions is now allowing smoking throughout the day in the bar area of the club. The exception to this policy will be when there are children’s programs scheduled in this area.

Needless to say, we will not be attending any events held in this room and there are quite a few we would like.

Barb, did you ever try to talk to your neighbors? Just out of curiousity. As I said, sometimes they are the less than polite type "I'll smoke when I want to, your allergy is your problem! And just to make sure you know it, I'll make sure to blow smoke in your face!" But most people I've run into are more than willing to at least blow the smoke the other direction if they know they are bothering someone.
