I read in the brits guide before we went this wasn't allowed in queues - turns out its only once you enter the building / under cover

why do people think its ok to do this - we were told by some women if we didn't like it to go to the back of the queue. I replied that because I like to drink was it ok to relive myself here and now and to warn her she might get splashed.

our local theme park doesn't allow it - I believe in some us parks its banned totally. Bear in mind these rides are for children - any else agree

I agree entirely. I know everyone can choose whether or not they smoke but sometimes it's like a deathtrap trying to avoid the flaming ashes whilst stood in a queue. Especially in BTM - it's like the thing to do in that queue. I know that some countries (France included) have a more lax attitude to smoking but it would be lovely to stand in the confines of a queue without the faint aroma of cigerette smoke!!

I'm completely with you on this one. I went to Alton Towers last month and while stood in the queue for a ride this guy blew his smoke right in my face. It makes me so mad, why can't people wait for a cigarette? Especially in that situation where there are a lot of people, including kids, it's ridiculous. Why should I have to breathe in someone elses smoke?

I'm a smoker myself, but dont smoke in line or in/near food areas etc. There are plenty of places at DLRP to have a cigarette without bothering other people, it just takes a bit of thought and consideration. I think its laziness that people light up in queues, and if they cant go for an hour without a ciggy then their habit is a problem. I especially dont like people walking around with cigarettes, holding them just at the head height of a child. My daughter was caught several times in this way last year. I would prefer smoking restricted to certain open-air areas of the park.

how nice to get a positive reply from someone who smokes

like you say 'laziness' - I for one don't have a problem with people smoking - I used to indugle the odd one or 2 myself many-many moons ago - but now with kids, no-no - and for others around me the same should apply

ok - so how to we get dlp management to enforce something ?

My mum is a heavy smoker but she wouldn't dream of smoking in a queue - remember not all smokers are rude!!

I would never do this either - however I quit smoking 15 days ago, yey!!! :cheer2:

The trouble is the French attitude to smoking is different to ours and that in the US. I have noticed a greater tolerance for smoking in mainland europe (France/Germany/Holland etc), which people will inevitably take advantage of.

My personal opinion would be to extend the smoking ban from the shops/restaurants and attractions to the queues, and to the areas of the park that are very busy (such as the village, Mainstreet and the walkways between the rides).

BUT ... I would also make sure that (wide) open-air areas such as plaza, the ground by the train station and around the lake were designated smoking permitted areas. This gives the lazies no excuse - restrictions have to have options I think.

This is my only problem with DLP. It drives me nuts that people are allowed to smoke every where and it's one thing we are looking forward to not putting up with in WDW. When we were there in July a man was smoking in the queue to Snow White - which is surrounded by wood. The CMs did not stop him and they must have been blind to miss it. I don't think it will ever be banned or restricted to a few smoking areas because smoking is such a part of French social culture.
PS - I don't smoke, I can't stand it and I think smokers should have an area to go to for their fix and then leave the rest of the park smoke free.

I agree with everything - very strongly as we've just been there and the smoking was a huge issue - especially in lines and in enclosed public spaces.

Can we do anything as a large group to let the management know??????

Would a letter to corporate USA Disney be of any use?

I agree also. Smoking was certainly not a problem in WDW when we were there but as people have pointed out, the Europeans have a much more accepting attitude towards smoking. I am not looking forward to this aspect of DLP.

I hate having to share someone's cigarette smoke with them and also those people who hold their cigarette at the same level as my child's face, whether he is walking or in the buggy. :sad2:

I DO agree that smokers need designated areas, but please, not a confined area where there are lots of other people, especially children.

Sara. :)

I wonder if we'll notice it more this year. When we went to Alton Towers / England earlier in the summer we really noticed the difference from home (Scotland now has a smoking ban in public places).

i'm in for the letter to any senior disney people - and I think the more people that feel the same the better

my local park is 'paultons' on the south coast - we complained last year about smoking generally and in lines and they replied all be it very nicely that nothing would be done until law is passed

this year - gues what - signs at the entrance to every ride 'No Smoking In Queue'

...and it works too

any have an address?

Tinkerbell36 - well done :thumbsup2 , stick with it, I know it can be hard but believe me it's well worth it.
This is my quit:
Four months, four days, 4 minutes and 49 seconds. 2520 cigarettes not smoked, saving £630.01. Life saved: 1 week, 1 day, 18 hours, 0 minutes.
and I sincerely hope I never have another ciggie in my life. :)

As an exsmoker I'm in total agreement with Torchy's comments.
Part of my motivation for giving up was because from our DLP trips I knew that I could. I'd go from being a 20/day smoker at home to 20 lasting me the whole holiday and it wasn't because I didn't want a cigarette, but rather hypocritically, because I would always request nonsmoking rooms and nonsmoking areas of restaurants for the sake of my children and my husband and I wouldn't dream of smoking whilst in a queue, and yes I got bloody annoyed about the lack of consideration of others too, unfortunately on the whole this is not the attitude shared by our European counterparts or some Brits.

For DLRP to have banned smoking in it's restaurants was a very big step, on some of the European forums there was some incredulity expressed at it. I imagine Disney management will be watching very closely to see what if any effect it has on these establishments and regardless of what's happening in US parks they will always take into account the cultural differences of mainland Europe, before Paris it was unheard of to have alcohol served inside a Disney park.

In my humble opinion, it will be a long time before we see a smoke free DLRP, it will come but when the French themselves introduce new smoking legislation and enforce it:smokin:
(Never been able to use that smilie before)

Complain to the CM's everytime you find someone smoking in the line. I did it and the offender was put out of the queue. :thumbsup2

Hi

We have just come back from DLP. I smoke myself, but dh hates me smoking. I hated people walking around the park smoking, lines and even in TARZAN show someone was behind me smoking :furious:

I for one do not smoke in lines etc... I sat down somewhere out of the way and made dh sit somewhere else for thier rest while I had a smoke. However I will be giving up anyway.

I dont think it is banned in lines is it? I could not see it on the maps and it wasnt obvious that it was banned in the lines :confused3 I would not do it anyway I dont think it is fair on the children and other guests breathing in my smoke.
