Smoking in line after line cutting!!

I was reading a thread on line cutting and it brought back a memory of our last trip in Dec. We were in line for ToT. Three teenage girls walk up in front of us to where another two were standing. That made several people including us mad but we did not say anything. Next they all started smoking in line. I was just about to tear into these girls when someone infront of them beat me to it. They put the cirgrettes out but took the attitude of boy whats that guys problem and kept making snide remarks about him all the way into the ride. It just took the fun out of the ride for us. I would have thought a CM would have said something or made them leave the line. From what I was told they have cameras everywhere and probably saw what was going on....smjj

This is where there is power in numbers. Did you come to the defense of the guy they were harassing or did you just let it happen. I'm a believer in taking action. If you had pointed out to a CM that they were smoking they certainly would have done the dirty work.

When put in the situation where people are wrong, it is natural to blame someone else. They put the cigarettes out and blamed someone else for their stupidity. The cigarettes were out, they chatted, what is the big deal?

This past June, and again in July(over the 4th weekend), we saw more smokers than ever before, and not one of them was in a designated area! We have an asthmatic child, so we always left the area, but I can't help but feel that the smokers should have left. On the 4th, in Epcot, we encountered several smokers who held their cigarettes down by their sides(as if hiding them from CMs), which is quite dangerous considering that is about eye-level for most children under 5. And the number of rude smokers at hotel pools is unbelievable! I am from NC(once a big tobacco-producing state),and grew up around smokers, so I do not wish to bash anyone that smokes responsibly. The only time I reported it to a CM was at the entrance to Blizzard Beach, and the CM seemed as unconcerned as the man in the moon. He did not say a word to the woman in the 10 minutes that we stood next to her, and I wasn't about to speak to her for fear of being treated like the guy in the line for ToT.

yeah talking about being a classless boor (a term I used in another thread that got me severe tongue lashings) Smoking in line - smoking anywhere but a designated smoking area is scummy. I smoke... but when I show up at a park... too bad so sad... I don't smoke - I mean it is like sacreligous - If I do break down and smoke I find a designated smoking area - and even then I try to gtet my fix fast and get it over with.... I mean this is DisneyWorld for crying out loud. I am glad someone in that line complained to those girls - I think I probably would have left the line to get a higher level CM and pay them to escort them out of the park !!! Some people's children....geezzzzzz

ITA!!!

There are more than enough smoking areas at Disney, smoking in line is not one of them.

At Cedar Point, in Sandusky, Ohio each ride entrance has it posted No Smoking in line if you do you will be removed from the line.

We did not come across any smokers in line. I don't know if they have certain places to smoke. Seems to me people were able to smoke anywhere but in line.
I may be wrong so.....

I live about an hour from Cedar Point, and can tell you from years of experience that they basically have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to line cutting, smoking and any other shenanigans in the ride queues.

I think that at Disney it's difficult for some CMs to "switch gears" and deal with the unpleasantness when it occurs. They spend so much time cultivating the Happiest Place On Earth image that must be difficult to smile at a hundred guests and chastize number 101.

smjj, never assume that Disney sees everything. At ToT they have a cast member at the front gate of the attraction to answer questions and verify FastPasses and then you don't see another cast member until you're inside and about to enter the pre-show in the library. There is serveillance equipment throughout the park but it's highly unlikely that security even saw the incident.

If they did, they probably wouldn't have dispatched an officer or alerted a cast member unless a physicial confrontation ensued.

This is the problem, in my opinion. Two others mentioned Cedar Point and its strict policies. That's absolutely right. If you cut in line they won't only take you out of the line -- they will escort you OUT OF THE PARK. But it's easy for Cedar Point because most of the parkgoers are local or at least American. At Disney World a large segment of the park population is visiting from outside the country. They may not even know that it is against the rules to smoke in line or that there are designated smoking areas. Yes, it seems like that wasn't the case at all with the smokers in your line but I've found Disney to be very lax about enforcing the rules because of the wide variety of circumstances and language barriers behind the guest intentions.

The thing that bugs me about these situations is that the offenders either comply or they don't, but they go on as if nothing ever happened. Those who were bothered by the situation and either do something about it or just cope with the situation quiety to not be confrontational -- those are the ones who have their park experience ruined. It lingers and sours the mood of the innocent.

Line cutting is annoying by itself.

Smoking is not only annoying to others, many of us mind being exposed to health hazards and bearing the hideous stench during a simple vacation day.

Mix them both and yes, it turns into an unpleasant situation.
When the heck are people going to learn?

Even before there where designated smoking areas in the park I never smoked in line and was always cautions to not smoke around crowds.

The subject has probably been discused to death, but if people use common sense (which unfortunetly many people lack) then you should be able to smoke in areas that aren't designated for smoking as long as you aren't in a crowd.
