Smoking ban

I remembered tonight that the smoking ban comes into force in England on 1st July.

What effect will it have on you? Are you pleased or not? I'm interested in everyone's views.(We've had it for a while now up here).

I might even start going back to pubs again and come out not reeking of stale tobacco.

We've had the ban here in Wales, too, for a couple of months now, and it's not until I go 'over the border' where the ban isn't yet in force that I realise how much I appreciate the cleaner atmosphere in public places

I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, but I grew up in a house where my parents both smoked and, when I started work, smoking was the norm in the workplace. I've always felt that pubs are places where smoking is acceptable (if I don't like it, I don't have to frequent them), but, when we visited Dublin last November (where the ban was already in place), I have to admit that it was sheer bliss to be in a smoke free environment.

work on building sites and there not surposed to smoke in cabin,they doo and most firms dont bother enforcing it.Now the management onsite will be hit with up to a £2500 fine per violation,think they might stop it.Hate the abuse you get when you ask them to stop.From sunday can call HSE

The smoking ban was the best thing to happen in Scotland. It's great going out and not coming home reeking of stale smoke.

DH has a company car and has just been given a no smoking sticker to put in it. It's funny really when neither he or I have ever smoked anyway. I'm looking forward to England being smoke free it's one of the things I love about the USA

Soooo glad about this... I go gigs a lot, and obviously loads of people smoke, so I always come back absoloutly reeking (it's not my bo I promise lol) and with a bad throat..

I can't wait!

I don't smoke but DH smokes like a chimney.....

Whilst I'm, personally, glad that the smoking ban is coming into force I know that it will, also, mean that I must remember to take my book, on the rare occasions we go out, as DH will be sitting outside.........!

DD is over the moon but we're waiting to see whether the ban will mean that the outside areas we normally prefer to sit in will be frequented by smokers and littered with 'dog ends'.......

Ooo just remembered an interesting fact...

The smoking ban is actually leaving a bigger a carbon foot print on the earth than we already are as all the pubs are buying patio heaters so smokers will be happy outside.

Me too, I can't wait to be able to go out and not stink of smoke when I get home

It's made such a difference here and not just in the pubs. I can take the kids to a cafe and not have someone at the next table blowing smoke in our direction and going out for a meal is lovely as well.

I cannot wait for this to come into effect. I was up in Scotland for the weekend last week, and it was so nice to be able to go out to eat and not stink of smoke afterwards

CAN'T WAIT EITHER the best thing this country has done in years
We go to see live music every weekend and it will be lovely not to have to breath in that filth. I will save loads on washing powder we have to wash every thing even the bed clothes stink the next day yuk

We are also non-smokers and I hate the smell of stale smoke on my clothes etc. It will be really nice.
