i'm just curious about this. i have read that there are now specific spots for smoking at the pop and i was wondering if anyone knows where they are. how are the resorts handling this new bi-law. any problems. i would not want to risk the fine, however, i do now some people who would think they could get away with it. you know the type, 'rules are not meant for me'.:snooty:

I've got the Pop map that they give you at check in right here and the smoking areas are clearly marked on it. Most of them seem to be near the elevators in each building. There are also numerous ones on the walkway around the lake.
The only places I noticed anyone smoking at all was at the smoking area right outside the back of the CLassic Hall and a few near the bus stop.

thanks momto2inkc. i was just curious how it was going and how many areas there were. if there is an area by each elevator i cann't see anyone having a problem with it. never understood smoking in a room that small to begin with.:)

Must have been a different Pop than we just returned from yesterday. Truthfully, the majority, if not 90%, of the smoking was done in the appropriately marked locations; however, there was always the one or two individuals that determined that as long they were walking from one smoking location to another, or on the way to a smoking location, they could smoke wherever they pleased. Not to mention the guy/girl that checked in to the room below us and decided to smoke in their room/right outside their door for a day or two before they were either turned in or came under conviction. Every morning we were amazed how many cigarette butts were seen in the stairwells and throughout the property not at a smoking location. Understandably, it's not a high priority for Disney to continuously patrol the grounds for smoking, but in this sense it really only takes one or two people to disregard the rules to make it that much harder on those that are trying to follow the rules.

This only annoyed us because even though Pop is supposedly a "smoke-free" resort, they make it incrediby convenient to smoke within a few feet of any building as well as most of the main walkway convergent points and numerous places around the lake. In fact, it takes quite an effort to walk between any room and the main building, or along any length of path along the lake without passing through a smoking haze.

Oh well, maybe once they complete the other half of Pop, Disney will decide that one half will allow smoking while the other half will be completely smoke-free. Not a great compromise, but smoking isn't something that can be "gotten away with" without a dozen people knowing about it, and at least one or two of them getting really irritated.

I was looking at the Pop Century map with the smoking areas noted on it for an upcoming trip I'm taking with smokers. I think there are plenty and within short walks from the buildings.

However, as a non smoker, I know that this world is NEVER going to be smoke free. Not at Disney World, not in my real life, not even going into a hospital (where the smoking area is right outside the main door). I can't drive and have a totally smoke free experience. I can smell when someone in the car inf ront of me is smoking, even with the windows rolled up.

Will there be people who don't care about Disney's smoking policy? Of course. When people are outside, they sometimes don't see the need to be careful about their smoke. After all, it's outside, the smoke doesn't stay around. That's why you will sometimes see people standing right outside their door smoking. It's outside.

Almost all the times I've been confronted with a situation where a person was smoking where they weren't supposed to and it bothered me, I have politely asked the person to move to a designated area. Sure, Disney's resort are smoke free. But people think it's only the ROOMS that are smoke free. They don't realize it's the grounds as well.

I don't smoke, never have smoked, never will smoke. However, until the nicotine addiction is forever more wiped off the face of the earth, we're all going to have to co-exist.

Was there 3 weeks ago there is smoking areas along hour glass lake...right outside classic hall heading towerds the hippy dippy pool to your right this is where most people would smoke also there is a little spot right next to the petals pool bar.

I noticed a lot of smoking going on outside of the DSA's during my stay at POP. I also saw a lot of people following the rules and smoking in the DSA right outside of classic hall. This has got to be the worst place for a DSA. You couldn't walk into classic hall without being bombarded by tons of smoke, it was quite disgusting.
