We have invited my daughter and son-in-law, both of whom are smokers, on vacation this July. I've booked a 1BR, non-smoking room, at the VWL. I know that they will need to go out for a smoke. Does anyone know if there are smoking areas around the villas or would it be better for us to have booked a smoking room? I really don't want to stay in a room where smoking was allowed. (Sorry to any smokers out there). I try to respect everyone's rights, but I hate it when my daughter feels that she can go on the balcony and smoke. Is it allowed to smoke on a balcony? I'm trying to plan a trip enjoyable to all. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I'd say this thread never makes it to the second page.

A bunch on anti smokers are going to pontificate about the ills of smoking and how it is morally wrong to smoke on the balcony of a non-smoking room.

But

All you got to do is ask Disney. Smoking is permitted on the balcony. Ask MS, ask CRO, ask the front desk, ask anyone, you can smoke on your balcony. Ask a maid for an ashtray, you could even call the front desk and have an ashtray brought up to your room.

PLEASE do a search on this issue that's been brought up before and before and before. A simple question always ends up becoming multi page thread that goes over everything that's been brought up before. I'd like to sugguest that the moderators automatically move any question about smoking to the debate board as soon as the question is asked since that's what it always ends up being.

does she read these boards? Then she won't know that it's okay to smoke on the balcony. :teeth: It should be fine to smoke outside. Send her to the pool bar :)

Or bring one of those smoke sucking ash trays?

Let's see- you are providing the accomodations...they are your guests. If they came to your home, how would you handle it? This is your "home away from home" resort, right? It seems to me that YOU are allowed to have whatever rules you would like in your own home...so long as they do not violate Disney's rules (ie smoking where you should not smoke)...all of that said, the rules should be clearly stated BEFORE you ever get there. If you want to allow her to smoke on YOUR balcony, you can...if you don't want her to smoke on the balcony, then make it clear that you don't like it and if that is a problem they can pay for their own smoking accomodations as they choose...as the host it is your privelege to run things anyway you want, but be prepared to deal with the consequences (she may decide that her freedom to smoke is more important than your comfort and wishes)

At WLV you could request a 1st floor pool view room. Then your daughter could just walk out the sliding door and smoke around the pool area. I know that it is just a request, but it might be worth a try.

One of my worst experiences was with this issue. We were in a non-smoking room at POR in which our neighbor would go outside and smoke on the balcony. It was awful! We were in a non-smoking building in which people were allowed to smoke. I called the front desk and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Therefore, the posts are correct when they say she can smoke on the balcony.

To make things worst, housekeeping brought her a stand up ashtray which she left on the balcony right outside of our door. Needless to say, my 4 year old, picked up a but that was still hot and burnt her hand.

If she is going to smoke on the balcony, please ask her not to leave an ashtray outside, where a child can get access easily.

Ummm-the whole problem could be solved by booking two studios - one smoking and one non-smoking. Of course, you'd give up the kitchen, handy washer dryer, and in-room whirlpool - but that way everyone oculd be comfortable.
