Smokers in the parks

Haven't seen any posts on how WDW security is handling people attempting to smoke in the parks (or if they've had to). Are they being directed to the DSA outside the park? Wrestled to the ground by alert security agents? (old SNL joke)

Anyone seen actual smoking (or vaping) in the parks?

I believe they have been authorized to carry water pistols filled with gasoline

We were at Epcot May 1 and did not see or smell anyone smoking in the park. Not even in the bathrooms.

When I returned home I sent an email thanking WDW for the ban on smoking in the parks. Here is part of the email they sent me yesterday from Guest Services.

"I am delighted to hear you are pleased with the updated park policies that went into effect on May 1, 2019. Our Cast Members are expected to enforce these new rules and speak with any Guests that may not be following our new guidelines. You are always encouraged to find the nearest Cast Member if you see a Guest not following the rules and the Cast Member will be happy to have that conversation and educate the Guest on the policy"

That's a great idea! Usually people only email to complain. I hope more people send Disney positive emails.

I was wondering about this too. I hated passing the smoking areas. I have sinus issues and the smoke can set it off.
Also noticed many not following the rules and walking around smoking esp Epcot

I just got back from a WDW trip (4/28 to 5/4) and only saw one person vaping in the park. I was almost never bothered by the smoking areas in the park previously, but with the smoking all consolidated right outside of the parks it made it much more noticeable for me, personally. Each time I walked out of HS and MK in particular I was hit with cigarette smoke. I suppose it all comes down to which way you have to walk when you enter/exit, but I can't help but wonder what a first time guest thinks when they are walking up to the turnstiles and among their first impressions is a group of people smoking.

Did you see any Disney response to that person who was vaping? At minimum, a CM informing them of the new policy, maybe?

I didn't see a CM tell them about the policy. The person was vaping in the open while walking, but putting it back in their pocket in between so it wouldn't be particularly easy for a CM to catch. I only saw her for a few seconds though.

I was in Epcot on Saturday. They were handing out information sheets at the gate as you came in to park, which was good, but I was disappointed to see that the pamphlet didn't specifically address vaping. I have encountered lots of vapers in the past who don't consider themselves bound to the same rules as smokers (including the two people who were vaping heavily in the food court restroom entrance at my local mall on Sunday and one previously who was vaping in the tiny shared dressing room in my community theater - ugh!), so I wish Disney had made it more obvious that they were included in the ban.

For DHS, I saw on a map the smoking area is right near the path to wait for the boats - so I assume taking the boats means walking through smoke(?). At what point did you notice the smoke - far from there? I guess we will stick to walking to Boardwalk and EPCOT vs taking boats. DH is very allergic - his eyes close up so we've always had issues navigating smoke.

Re: vaping, I hope Disney adds vaping to the handouts- agree, it's a gray area for most.

Yes, it was toward the boat path. Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue for him. I felt like the areas were quite close to the security checkpoints, but looking at the maps now makes them seem not so close. It essentially comes down to from which direction you are entering and I happened to be coming from the wrong way in those parks.
