On our last full day in CA, we rode Soarin and then decided to have dinner at Smokejumpers grill. I ordered a kids burger and when we sat down at our table it was cold. Not just the bum but the burger too. So I brought it to a cast member and told them it was cold and asked for another.. They brought me another burger.. which was also cold.. So again, I asked for another and waited at the counter for it.. seeing it was hot and steamy when they handed it to me.. So I was a happy guest. After we ate, we decided to watch the Cars 3 preview at Bugs Land and we were not in our seat more than a few minutes when I knew I was going to be sick. I knudged my DH and said we had to go now and I bolted out the side door and ran to a bathroom. That ended our evening and after I had nothing left, we went back to the Grand Californian for the night. Has anyone had problems with the food on their trip?

That's a bummer! I haven't had issues recently, but there was a time in the past where we ate at Stagedoor Cafe and I had the Fatasmic dessert party afterward. I had to run to the bathroom twice during the show and wasn't able to eat or drink anything while there because I felt so ill after my meal from Stagedoor. It was so disappointing. I'm sure it was a mild case of food poisoning.

I'm sorry you got sick. We had one issue once with the clam chowder from Harbour Gallery, my 2nd child ate a few spoonfuls and said it tasted funny. We did take it to the counter and tell them (they offered a new one which we declined). She got sick a few hours later but after a good sleep and some 7-up was good to go the next day!

When I was there in March I felt pretty sick after eating some chicken nuggets from Stagedoor Cafe. It really came at a bad time since we were dining at club 33 the same night. Luckily i was able to find some pepto and pretty much just took it easy for a few hours and by the time dinner came around i was feeling mostly OK.

That's exactly what I had when I got really sick. I would have never imagined hot, deep fried food could harbor enough bacteria to cause the illness, but it certainly did. Maybe they leave it sitting out for a long time.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I figured because it's deep fried it would kill off any of the chicken bacteria, but who knows. It could have been a number of factors that caused it. It makes me sad since I really like their chicken nuggets and now i'll probably be a little iffy of them the next time I go.

Food poisoning is usually not from the most recent thing you ate. It can take from 12 hours to a week for symptoms to appear. So don't necessarily blame the thing you just ate on food poisoning. Common misconception.

With a food borne pathogen like Salmonella or E-coli...yes, you are correct.

But just common bacteria from rancid/mishandled/poor temp controlled stored food which creates the most common ailments and discomforts you can most certainly know immediately!

All forms of food "poising" are not created equally.

I have had both Salmonella AND E-Coli and those symptoms were quite a few hours later and lasting several days as you described...but If I eat something "bad" that is a result of bacteria I know within a few minutes. Luckily my body is great at flushing it out quickly but it is common for many to react immediately then take 12-24 hours to get it outta their system and still have some lingering effects.

There also could be many things that caused it...food not even being one of them. Hot day, dehydrated, etc...eating grease right after being super hot.

I'm not going to NOT blame the burger, but it could have been anything..maybe even in conjunction with the burger. Our food all came out warm and it was actually one of my favorite meals.

That said, they also do have all the toppings just out in the bar. If they aren't kept at a good temp that could become a problem as well.

We eat at Disneyland almost once a week. Smokejumpers very often. I have 385 park visits and I have never once gotten sick. We must have very good luck, because I know food borne illness happens a lot. However, it has never happened to us.

I like Smokejumpers, but am very careful about the toppings bar, especially the tongs and other implements. It is amazing how unhygienic other guests can be (ever look at how many guests leave the restrooms without washing their hands or without using soap?) and how many guests boast about visiting the parks while sick. We use napkings to pick up the tongs, handwipes to clean up the table and any area that we will touch, and hand sanitizer afterward. If another party near us appears to be ill, we move to another table if possible. Nothing is foolproof, but at least we try to protect ourselves.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.. made me rethink things... I did get tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and onions from the topping bar.. not sure what it was that got me sick but I was not dehydrated, been drinking water alot that day and it was a cooler day, upper 60's for highs. I will be more aware next time!

Man, that's a bummer, I'm normally a Smoke Jumpers/Taste Pilot's Grill advocate! I haven't had this problem before :(

We came home with some crazy bug that I am still recovering from. Our trip was the last week of April. I'm FINALLY on the mending end but holy crud has it been awful. I'm 99 percent sure I know which teen gave it to me too. He was hacking EVERYWHERE. *cry face* But yeah it has laid us flat. We all got acute bronchitis and two of us are on antibiotics STILL. I tried so hard to be germ aware (we wipe tables down ourselves etc) but it caught us anyway.

I hope it never happens again! I'm gonna guess you won't want to eat there again anyway LOL.

I've noticed that when the subject of food poisoning comes up, the consensus is that you can't get sick really fast. I know that you can indeed get sick super fast because we had a party of five at a restaurant at DLR which shall not be named and by the time we walked to our cars right after dinner we were all desperately ill. We wanted to watch the fireworks after dinner but instead hurried back to our hotel and were ill all night long.

Not saying that the cold burgers did it in this case, but, trust me, it isn't always a flu bug that just came on. Fast-acting food pathogens are real.

I got horrible, horrible food poisoning during my April trip... on my birthday. The whole reason I went to DLR. I can't be 100% sure what caused it, but I had been there for 2 days before the symptoms set in.

To the OP: please contact DLR (use the "contact us" link on the web page) to leave a detailed report about what happened. If it's something that they can fix, then they need to address it. They can't fix what they don't know about. For anyone who believes they got sick from eating something at DLR, alert the restaurant and Guest Services. It may help improve things for other guests in the future.
