Smoke In The Lobby Of The Swan

Last year we stayed at the Dolphin and we noticed that the lobby had a very stong smoke smell. I understand that people are allowed to smoke there, and I totally understand even though I do not smoke and I cannot stand the smell of smoke.
My question is..........

Do you think the smoke smell is as bad at the Swan?

We have never been to the Swan and I do not even know if there is a place to sit around in the lobby but we have always enjoyed sitting in the lobby and watching people. We truly enjoyed doing this last year at the Grand Floridian. I know that the lobby cannot even compare to the Grand Floridian but still we would like a place to hang-out instead of our room all the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read that the State of Florida has passed a law prohibiting smoking in all public areas that goes into effect on July 1st.

Don't know if this will be in time for your trip, but it may help others in the future.

The lobby at the Swan is half the size of the Dolphin lobby. When we stayed there in April 2001, there was rarely anyone sitting around, even though it was Spring/Easter break.

There are other areas you can sit towards the back of the Swan, where you leave to head towards the courtyard that connects the Swan and Dolphin. There are groupings of sofas and chairs, and there were people smoking back there.

When I stayed at The Swan in December, I very rarely saw anyone sitting in the lobby with a cigarette. I did smell a faint smell of smoke, but as I was just passing through quickly, it didn't bother me at all. I suppose if you are meeting your group in the lobby, and sitting there also, it might bother you.

Yes the swan in October of 2002 was cigar haven when we were there (and I have asthma). To the point that it was like running the gauntlet to the back door through the cigar bar which is the back lobby bar area. It doubles as a little coffee area in the morning and cigar / bar area in evening. I did not know that there was a cigar event there in october also though so this could of made it worse than the average thou.


I never really had a problem at the dolphin, but if you think that was a problem, trust me the swan was WAY worse. the lobby and sitting areas are much smaller and compact so it is in a condensed area. And of course, I agree that the convention / business crowds will increase the smoke problem with the breaks they take etc.... they can be VERY large groups at the S/D.

Maybe this new law will be a good thing for us with medical conditions, ( now if I could add perfume to that I would be in heaven)!

The Swan and Dolphin have always been very popular with Japanese tourists....who also tend to enjoy cigarettes. Of course, the new FL law should solve any problem.

Hi Blondie! Do you know where I could find this info on the web? I am thrilled to see Fla. catching up to Cali! Hooray. I do not mind folks smoking "outside", but I would prefer the interiors of buildings be smoke-free. How wonderful...thanks for the good news.
