Smiley or Smilie?

OK, I have a question for y'all. Do you spell it smiley or smilie? I personally spell it by adding a y on the end of smile (as you can see from my user name) but many places, such as Dis's "smilie" box, spell it the other way. Which is right or do you prefer?

I spell it "smilie" because I used to date a young man whose last name was Smiley. I prefer "smilie"
