Smidgy and the Grump, Freaky Friday, 11-06

We had a great time with the T-Rex. Cherie wrote a great report about T-Rex (on Winkers board).

Nebo: sounds like tango and cash had a tangle and clash. :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:
Yes they did, I'm thinking of wearing a cup from now on at Disney.

I loved that installment! Didn't I write a nifty jingle about your fish? I couldn't find it now if my life depended on it.

Oh, and I just read in another thread that 3% of Dis users have dial-up. You are definitely a rare and exotic breed! :goodvibes

I do remember you writing a jingle about it. I believe I found this chapter on page 62 of Honey, I shrunk, so your post is probably not far after that.

Me too! Oops. I missed the "from the last trip report."

See what happens when you skim?:happytv:

That just cracked me up! When I moved from Montréal, it took me months to find a place that made decent pizza! LOL "Montréal style" crust is actually known as really thin crust pizza, the kind that you can't eat without some of it ending up in your lap!

Loving the report, even if I'm a lurker! popcorn::

Hi lanie, I think you post once a trip report, whether you need to or not.

popcorn:: literally

Yeah, yeah

Sorry about the delay, had an emergency household project that had to be taken care of, replace a garbage disposal. It was going anyway but Diane put it out of it's misery when she peeled about 8 pounds of potatoes and then tried to hide the peels by stuffing them all down it's throat.
Then I came to the rescue and after me best efforts were ineffective in releasing the clog, I used the only option left:
I poured Drano down it.
Then I poured some more Drano down it.

Then it became incontinent, leaking from the nether regions and that was it.
But it wasn't clogged anymore!
So let's get on with it, shall we?

It is time for our appointment at T-Rex. Yes, I use the word appointment here because that's how I feel. You make reservations for Easter Brunch, other holidays, but it seems now you also have to have one at Disney if you want to eat there, anywhere. And I do get tired of having to drop what your doing just to be at a certain restaurant at a certain time, ergo, appointments.

Luckily, there really is nothing planned at all today, and it's still too cold for pool time so this I was really looking forward to.

Ok, time for some:
DI-
NO_
MEAT!

Besides, I was starved! Hadn't eaten at all today yet, and didn't eat much yesterday because it's hard to chew properly when your teeth are clenched in pain. Both of us were starved.

T rex is made up of several different areas, or rooms.
The pteradactyl, the coral, the ice and the sequoia rooms.

We sat in the pteradactyl (and I'm not going to type that again) room.

THis is one of the first things we saw when entering.

trex4.jpg

Of course our host tried to seat us right by the open doorway, where it was about 50 degrees and we would have had a lovely view of tourists walking by outside. Diane would have none of that and got us moved to a table further in.

THIS was a great table. We sat directly underneath this guy, and since it's the ptera........ big bird room, you know what is going to be right over us.

trex5.jpg

That's right, Ray Romano.

When our waitress came, this also gave me a chance to use an old line that has always been a favorite of mine.

Looking up at Old Ray I said, "So, does that come with cole slaw and fries?"

I got the feeling she had heard that one before because I got the obligatory smile with no teeth.

Ok, let's see now; Diane got the paleozoic chicken sandwich, grilled and served with bacon and lettuce and tomatoes and avacado stuffage on fried pizza dough. Something like that.

I got the bronto burger.

Both sandwiches came with chips, but these aren't your basic Ruffles chips here, these are made there and much thicker, kinda of like very flat french fries.

To both of our surprise they were quite good, a little pricey at 12 for the burger and 13 for the chicken, but you are paying for the atmosphere here, and believe me, their electric bill had to be enormous.

After ordering we both got up to look around, I grabbed the camera.

THis fellow was in one corner;

Then we went into the ice room.

trex2.jpg

I think this guy was right at the border of the ice room and sequioa room.

trex1.jpg

In my opinion, the ice room is probably to coolest looking, it also seems to undergo the biggest change every 20 minutes or so when the meteor storm hits,, all the blue walls and lighting turn bright red.

The coral room is by the bar and the sequioa room is way in the back, and wasn't even open when we were there.

Back at the table our cokes came, and then the place started messing with me.
Every once in a while there would be a light tap on my shoulder.

I'd turn and look, and nothing there. After the third time, I noticed that it was starting to get a little wet, something from above was driipping on me.

I gave Old Ray a funny look.
Diane asked what's wrong, and I told her.

"Ray's drooling on me!" "It's mammoth mucus!"

Naturally, right then the waitress was standing there, so I had to explain it to her. She told me it was probably from an air conditioning unit above.

Yeah, right, it was 55 degrees out.

All in all, it was a delightful time, no complaints at all and I'd go back there again. If you have kids, I promise you they will still be talking about T-Rex, it's by the same company that has the Rainforest Cafe, but in here it's like the rainforest on steroids.

By the way, it's not just when the meteor shower comes that the dinos move about, they do so almost constantly a little the whole time.

There is also a huge gift store attached to the building, try not to let kids see it on the way out.

Back at the resort, Diane thinks she may want to go and lie by the pool for a bit, and I think some of her Easter eggs are still hidden behind the seat cushion.

From last year.

I walked around the building to the side the pool was on , and yep, it is just packed with sunbathers.

I took the picture, then went back to the room and showed her it and told her the ones that were down there have all been taken away with hypothermia.

There is a bright spot though, according to the weather channel, it is going to start warming up tomorrow, about frigginn time!

Later on, we went on down to the arcade to use our voucher that came with the package. Now, I have not done arcades in ages and I have no idea how the voucher works. We asked the attendant, and he lost me right after he said, "It works like this,"

We liked the arcade here at Pop because it had some of the old games; Donkey Kong, pac man, missile command and the like, but we spent more time, (of our allotted one half hour) trying to figure out how to switch the machines over to the game of our choosing.

On the way out through the gift shop, it still depresses me to no end that they still have all these scarfs and gloves piled high right on the checkout counter, and people were still scarfing them up.

But tomorrow will be better, and tomorrow is Epcot!
:dance3:

I have heard T-Rex is really loud. Is it? Jimmy doesn't like really loud things and although I think he'd like the dinos part, I don't want him freaking out about the noise.

Mammoth mucus!:lmao:

I hear Ray Ramano's voice every time I see a wooly mammoth too!
We were seated in the ice room and it was alot of fun to watch it change colors.

The gift shop on the way out is like quick sand.........one wrong step and your sucked under!

Somehow I don't think I could get whogirl (with the supersonic, sensitive hearing) within a mile of T-Rex, but it looks very cool.

Woo, hoo! Epcot, my favorite!

T-Rex looks very cool. Who knows, I might make it there in my lifetime, but doubtful, LOL. Unless I have grandkids one day, which are not anywhere in sight so far.

Looking forward to warmer weather for you and Epcot.

T-Rex looks cool, but loud. Looking forward to better weather & Epcot :goodvibes

I think the Vikes were making you hallucinate at the Rose and Crown. Since when does deep fried fish and potato chips look like a slimey eel. Unless they really changed the menu.

My dh got the fish and chips and it was cod and us Wisconites avoid bars/resturants on Friday nites that have cod.

Hey, I just found you! You probably didn't even know you were lost. I'll come back tomorrow to actually catch up on here, but i wanted to sub in now, before the brain cells that found you jump ship. Goodnight!:hippie:

Amen! :worship:

I totally agree, and that's the best T-Rex desription I've seen yet! :rotfl:

Yay!

I have heard T-Rex is really loud. Is it?
I'm not Nebo, but YES. Really, really, really loud. Think he'd be okay with ear plugs? Because I do think he'd dig the place. :goodvibes

sorry, not doing call outs right now. Just ONE!
This is for Oh Mari, who had the audacity to disagree with me on the condition of the "Fish".
Here, YOU WANNA EAT THIS?

Thanks for dragging that up from the primordial waters again, Neeb :scared1:

to me, Trex is almost an attraction, and not to be missed! I hated to leave, really. even though each room has it's own theme, they let you walk around (at least when we were there. )as nebo said it wasn't crowded, one whole room was not being used, although you could "tour" it. work of warning: if you are right near a big "creature", you may have people standing near you, gaping up, whilst you dine. for me, that was part of the fun .of course, sooner or later, someone will start a thread about the "rude" people standing by their table while they were "trying" to eat.(we were seated by the wooly mammoth, not you, so... you can't look!:rotfl:)remember, you heard the prediction here first, folks!
I didn't know where to look first! OR second! what fun!!!
oh yeah, I really did enjoy my sandwich.
we're not big shoppers so never saw a need to go to downtown disney marketplace for years. but between this and lego land, (and a chocolate at Ghiradellis), well worth an afternoon. I would evven pass up using the proverbial Planet Hollywood voucher for this restaurant OOP (out of pocket).
(now if they would only bring back Adventurer's Club.......:confused3)

Wow - the restaurant looks really cool...I wonder if you could request to be seated in a certain section. I think we'd really like the ice room...but only when it's warm out! :goodvibes

hmm, this is going to be really easy today, all the call outs are really just on one subject.

I have heard T-Rex is really loud. Is it? Jimmy doesn't like really loud things and although I think he'd like the dinos part, I don't want him freaking out about the noise.

Somehow I don't think I could get whogirl (with the supersonic, sensitive hearing) within a mile of T-Rex, but it looks very cool.

Ok, if you're afraid of the noise in there, honestly, I wouldn't be, and no, not because I hear like crap, but because I think the visuals will engage the senses in such a positive way that the auditory effects won't even be noticed. (that come out of me?)
Or, here's another idear. Make ressies for the place, then go and check it out with the younguns. Just going to the gift shop will give you and idea of the noise, and I doubt they would mind if you just went into the bar area and had a drink, then you can decide if you want to keep the ressie or not. (I'm so bright my mama called me sun.)

T-Rex looks very cool. Who knows, I might make it there in my lifetime, but doubtful, LOL. Unless I have grandkids one day, which are not anywhere in sight so far.

Looking forward to warmer weather for you and Epcot.

Ahem, Marita, we didn't have our grandkids with us, and we like it a lot. You might too if you ever get your keister out of Yacht and Beach Club.

T-Rex looks cool, but loud. Looking forward to better weather & Epcot :goodvibes

Me too, me too! I'm also looking forward to wearing clean clothes! Just because my socks not only talk to me but are actually bi-lingual is nothing to be proud of.

Hey, I just found you! You probably didn't even know you were lost. I'll come back tomorrow to actually catch up on here, but i wanted to sub in now, before the brain cells that found you jump ship. Goodnight!:hippie:

Danielle, since you have already posted on this thread before, I think not only have those brain cells jumped ship, but they are swimming out to meet the Carpathia.

Ok, I just like quoting the little worship guy. No, really, the whole making ressies and having to be there thing is one thing we have compromised on, especially when it comes to Free Dining. Now we try to pick at least one signature resty to free up more time. Plus there are counter service meals we've never tried yet, especailly at Epcot and probably won't if we are always in a Showcase restaurant.

Great Dino pics!

Loved the update...and reliving the Fish Incident ;)

Thanks for dragging that up from the primordial waters again, Neeb :scared1:

Colleen and Marita, I will never forget that fish as long as I live. For the record to everybody else, that wasn't the exact, same fish I got that night, Lexmelinda found that somewhere, but as God is my witness, it was just about a dead ringer for it. I believe when I first posted it, Winkers called it a "Lizard with a gimpy leg." speaking of which,,,,,,,,,,

Mammoth mucus!:lmao:

I hear Ray Ramano's voice every time I see a wooly mammoth too!
We were seated in the ice room and it was alot of fun to watch it change colors.

The gift shop on the way out is like quick sand.........one wrong step and your sucked under!

Am I the only one who want's to ask her just how often she sees whooly mammoths? I wonder if the pink elephants approve?

that was just scary!:scared:

And you thought your gyros contained mystery meet.

Poor Smidgy! :sad2: To be treated like that after she saved you $300!

Now this is one I had to think about. Hi Maroon, ok, you're talking about the second or third chapter where I yelled at Smidgy not to get out of the car until I do so it doesn't flip over, right?

we're not big shoppers so never saw a need to go to downtown disney marketplace for years. but between this and lego land, (and a chocolate at Ghiradellis), well worth an afternoon. I would evven pass up using the proverbial Planet Hollywood voucher for this restaurant OOP (out of pocket).
(now if they would only bring back Adventurer's Club.......:confused3)

Ok, hold it right there. Pass up the free voucher? I don't think I heard that correctly. What part of "free" don't you understand?

Ok, tomorrow we write so hang in there. I don't know if the chapters will be any more entertaining, but I do know one thing.
They are finally going to be Warmer!

Wow - the restaurant looks really cool...I wonder if you could request to be seated in a certain section. I think we'd really like the ice room...but only when it's warm out! :goodvibes

Tracy, I have no doubt you can request a certain section, just probably not when you make the ressies but you can try. Just tell the hostesss when you check in you want the ice room, if she gives you a hard time tell her you want to speak with Ray.
