I bought 2 pairs of jeans and the dye in the jeans smell! I've washed them a few times but theres still a lil oder. What can I use to get rid of the smell? I've soaked them over night in laundry soap-Tide and I've used downy fabric softner and downy sheets no luck. Dh is on the way to Wal-mart so is there a laundry soap that will work?

Nothing will work. It's usually lighter jeans that have that smell. Honestly, save your money because nothing will get the smell out. :(

I've bought some stuff and after a few washes the smell did go away. For some reason I've washed 3 times and theres still a lil smell. I was hoping to wear these tomorrow if I get the smell out

Try washing them with some white vinegar. I've had some luck with getting smells out doing that.

Are they black? I have not had much luck getting the smell out until they have been washed several times. I wash them separately so they don't make everything else smell - I made that mistake once. :(

I've not had a smell problem with jeans, but for smelly towels, white vinegar works. I was with vinegar, then wash a second time using baking soda, and the smell is gone. It might work for jeans too.

white vinegar works well, also I've had good luck with oxi clean (name brand) taking the smell out of things

I have a pair of darker wash jeans that smelled horrible! I have probably washed them 15 times. I've tried vinegar - no dice. The only thing that has helped is washing with the Febreeze laundry additive. I used a full two caps the first time. I now throw in a capful every few washes as the smell seems to slowly creep back over time. :confused3 Just the weirdest thing! Hope the febreeze will help yours.

is Febreeze laundry additive a laundry soap? I use downy that has febreeze but didnt work. I was at wal mart and didnt see any febreeze laundry soap. What store did you buy your at? I'm on the west coast.

Questions about the vineger- do i use it instead of soap? Someone mentioned rinse cycle do i add more duding rinse cycyle or just at rinse cycle?

Baking soda- How much do I use? Do I use that instead of soap or with soap?

You can use them separate or together. I have used them all together to keep a white soccer uniform clean. 1 c. vinegar, 1/2 c. baking soda.
The method I used for smelly towels said to do a load w/ just vinegar, then wash again with baking soda. Here's the link:

Your best bet? Drop them in the Goodwill bin! I've had jeans like that in the past and there is absolutely nothing that is going to get that smell out of them --- and I tried EVERYTHING.

It's a separate jug - kind of reminds me of the Clorox2 bottles. I think I found mine at Walmart. If I didn't get it there, I would have grabbed it at Target. Not a cure all, but has helped immensely!

Good luck!

OMG, I bought a pair of jeans on Black Friday and didn't notice the smell until I got home. They were cheap and l love them. Did you have any luck getting the smell out? I may have to return if I can't. They are a dark denim, not black. The tag says the jeans were dyed in a special process. Can't be good with that smell!

and I have tried sooo many things to try and get the smell out. Vinegar, febreeze, something specifically for smelly sports clothes sold at Dick's, an odor out product from QVC - Nothing works. You think it is gone but then, add a little body heat, and the smell is right back. I've googled the issue and it is true that it comes from the darker washes and also includes some major brands. I bought them at Kohl,s and they have a great return policy so i am thinking of returning them. They are unwearable.

I washed with normal tide. I let the pant hang dry in the house since its been raining. Smell isnt as strong but I can still smell a lil. I think the dryer or body heat makes the smell worse. I've been super busy but plan on looking for the frebreeze soap. I will also try the vineger and baking soda first.

I bought one pair of black Lee pants not jeans and those smell. I also bought another pair of medium Lee jeans and those are the ones I'm trying to get the smell out of so i can wear. I also bought another dark pair but those have the tags on. I dont have a recipet because I exchange the two because I lost weight and the other two new pants didnt fit but when I exchange I dont think I got a recipet the sales clerk just exchanged I'll have to see if she printed something out but its been a lil over a month ago
