Smelly and hot Monorails

Was super thrilled to have a 3 day stay at Grand Floridian over the 4th, trip was great, all Cast Members were above and beyond, but the only complaint was the hot and smelly monorail. Looked so forward to being at a resort on the monorail loop but every single time we road it there was no air. Was proud to make it several hours in the park in 90 degree heat but within 3 minutes of being on those monorail's I was sweating profusely. Disney needs to address this, been stuck on a monorail before and would hate to see what would happen to people in this scenorio.

I've never ever been on a monorail and thought it felt cool or like there was an a/c on. Just that room temperature air was being blown so it wasn't just stagnant.

I do wish the monorails and boats had nice a/c blowing. Would make Disney transportation way better. Disney buses are the best transportation they have in terms of being comfortable

One of the many reasons I cringe on the inside when I see people praising the monorail system and carrying on how it's a huge benefit to have it at the resorts that it services. Some go on like the monorail is the best thing since sliced bread. It's just an awful thing to me. I want to avoid using it, not pay more to stay at a resort that has it.

I've never found them smelly or hot, even in summer. I'm not one of those people who is always hot, though. Some people need all indoor spaces to be 60 degrees, or they're hot...

I honestly have never been on a monorail and been hot or thought it was smelly, but I've heard people talk about it here in the Dis.
Lucky? I doubt it as we've stayed on site a ton and over many years... different times of the year too. Maybe I'm just still so excited :love:to be there I totally miss it:ssst:

I thought the monorail was air-conditioned. I remembered it was cool when we rode it before in July 2010 and August 2014. However, it smelled really badly when we rode it to MK after a character breakfast. It was ok when we rode it in the afternoon to our lunch at the Wave. I would try to avoid riding it early in the morning when the system is just starting up. Hope Disney hasn't done away with A/C in the monorail. It would be awful to ride it in the summer without air-conditioning for sure!

It has always been air conditioned for us - there must have been a problem - I hope they fix all the issues with the monorail soon. We do enjoy riding it.

Not making any excuses for OPs experience, that doesn't sound fun. But for an alternative experience, I was just there Saturday-Wednesday, rode the monorail at least two times a day every day, and can't say I experienced the same problems as OP. The monorails are typically never ice cold in terms of HVAC, but they are 'usually' cool enough in my experience. Not on this trip but on occasion in the past I have stepped on a car whose A/C obviously needed a little TLC. When that has happened, I'll just move to the next car. Really not much different than many big city subway systems frankly.

Just like how Disney offers lots of different resort options, I for one appreciate how they offer different modes of transportation to most places around WDW. Usually plenty of choices for everyone. :goodvibes

I love the monorails, been riding since the late 70s. Pretty sure there is some kind of air cooling in there or it would be unbearable--but maybe some cars have some faulty cooling? It's disappointing to me how they've let those trains go, becoming less reliable. The functioning monorail is/was one of the promises of a "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow." They really shouldn't let that slide.

We rode with a family once that made a huge issue about how bad it smelled.

Once they got off, I did notice the air seemed to be a lot fresher.

Maybe they were smelling themselves and didn't realize it.

Lucky and/or have a different sense of smell.

I feel they can get stifling. And they always smell like bandaids.

That's it more than no AC. Some of the cars are cooler than others but even the cool cars are not comfortable. It's that the air doesn't move. And the smell is stale and unpleasant (among other things)

i hear ya...I have always found them to hot and SMELLY!!! when they still let kids "pilot" the monorails, we did once. it was so hot and gross in the front car, I refused to let the kids do it again. I don't know how the drivers see as the windows were all fogged up!

Certainly subjective. We're here now, and use the monorail quite a bit. It's certainly not 50 degrees inside and smells like roses, but I don't have any issues with them. The a/c is on and the only bad smells are from other guests. Considering how often the doors open and closed, I think they do a pretty good job of keeping them decently cool.

It seriously smelled like a barn the last one we rode from the Contemporary. It's been a few years now since our last trip but I was hoping they had figured out a way to pump in some air freshener.

oh but they change that tune as soon as the monorail breaks down and all have to get back on the tiny boats back to their monorail serviced resort :rolleyes1
