How many of you when you are away from Disney experience a smell that reminds you of something about Disney? One that gets me is when I get a whiff of the exhaust from a bus, like a Greyhound. It reminds me of standing waiting for the buses to pick you up at one of the resorts. Also, the lobby of our local post office reminds me of the smell in the Contemporary.

This happens after any hotel stay. When you open the suitcase to unpack, you get a whiff from the scent of the room.

We bought new sunscreen for our trip last May. It had a sort of fruity smell to it. Every once in awhile my dd will bring out the sunscreen and we will smell it (silly I know) but it brings us right back to our fabulous vacation!!!! :sunny:

I buy all of my perfumes (hand blended perfume oils) from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. I had gotten a sample of March Hare (they have an entire collection based on Alice in Wonderland) which is a blend of apricot and clove. When I first open the sample vial, I thought, " Oh. My. God. This is the smell of Disney at Christmas!". I made a room/linen spray out of it and now I always get that Disney at Christmas smell in my bedroom. :cloud9:

Sometimes certain misty water scents remind me of the lobby at the Polynesian because of all the plants. And a trip is never complete until we at least visit the Polynesian and get a whiff of that familiar lobby :)

I wish I could re-create the smell of the lobby at the Poly, as soon as I walk in, I know I'm at DW.

This is a very interesting topic. I am big on smells. It is a key link to memories. But I have honestly never associated smells with Disney! I feel like I have been left out on a big secret! Not this time though. LOL. You know it will be me there in April, if you see a cute blonde walking around sniffing the air! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sometimes after it's done raining here it smells just like I'm walking to the boat dock surrounded by trees at WL. I love that smell more than anything else! :)

I wear the perfume Laila by Geir Ness, the perfume that they sell at the Puffins Roost in Norway, so whenever I wear that, I feel like I'm right there. Now if someone could find a way to bottle the smells of the Kringla og Bakeri, I'd be good to go! ;)

I read this and REALLY agree with you!!!

Anytime I smell mesquite burning I think of Spaceship Earth.... :sunny:

My bank cleans or maybe freshens carpets with the same cleanser that my hotel uses and whenever I go in their lobby, I smell Disney... :sunny:

I haven't been in the Contemporary in years but when we used to stay there, it had a very distinct smell that I loved. Through the years, I've smelled it other places and thought "OH! Contemporary!"

I know this sounds crazy, but a lady in my building makes coffee in her classroom that she shares with several of us, and every morning when I walk in there to get my coffee, it takes me back to the smell of the food court at the ASMo where we went on our first trip to WDW. It gets my day started off right. I also agree with the smokey smell from Spaceship Earth. The first time we rode it my son (who is autistic and very sensitive to smells) said it smells like chicken. So of course every time we ride it now it is a tradition to say that.

We asked what made The World Showcase in Epcot smell so wonderful, and one of the things they told us was they have Sweet Olive bushes planted within the lush woods. We came home and bought a ton of them and planted them all round our pool and by the front door. When they are in bloom, we love to sit outside and just enjoy the aroma....aaaa.... the memories of strolling around the World Showcase!!

In fact, they are in bloom now! :goodvibes

I have one. They built a shopping area near were I live. It looks like mainstreet usa at mk. It also has the smell and they all so have piped in music. It is great just to sit there on a park like bench and just breath in the experience.

Every so often after it rains, or on a spring morning my kids say mom it smells like Disney!! and I agree...then I try to talk my husband in to planning another trip. ::MickeyMo

I have one too! The Polynesian lobby, especially right over near the hallway by Capt Cook's has a very distinctive smell. We were at Sam's Club one day and I smelled that smell. I completely stopped in my tracks and my DD who was five at the time said "MOM! it smells JUST like the Polynesian here!"

What's odd, is that it was in an area devoid of merchandise and you could only smell it in about a two foot by two foot area. Weird.

Subsequently, I have smelled the Herbal Essence Rainforest shampoos, and I think it must be banana leaves that have that same smell. The shampoos that smell like the Polynesian lobby all have that similar ingredient.

Great thread!!!

Chlorine reminds me of Disney.

The chlorinated drinking water :crazy2:
The chlorinated pools :bounce:
The chlorinated water smell from waterfalls and streams.

Whenever I smell it I think of Disney.

Not really a good thing but..........

The smell of bus exhaust. I find myself in traffic with my sunroof cracked and one will pull up next to me. I want so badly to see "MAGIC KINGDOM" written across the front of it.
Passing roasted chickens in a grocery store smells like turkey legs.

The loading area for SE. I know it's supposed to be the "Dust of Time" or something like that, but for me, it's just SE. If I'm ever lucky enough to catch that smell at home I'm like a fiend trying to get as much of it before I get used to it and then lose it.
