SMASH thread!

What is ironic is that Julia and Michael are together in real life. But, on the show, they act like two adolescents who keep pawing each other and need her DH & DS to chaperone them. :sad2:

I don't think Ivy can leave. If anything, she steps up as understudy now. She can still do things to get rid of Karen on the opening night and end up playing Marilyn and take off being a star once everyone sees her instead.

That really happened in real life when Shirley Maclaine ended up taking over for the star in a Broadway musical & all the critics were there that night so they wrote about her performance.

Maybe they are like that in real life, too, you know since she left her husband and he left his wife. Seems like an adolescent-type of behavior.

Was that Sweet Charity?

It might have been Pajama Game. I read it in her autobiography, Out on A Limb, years ago. She replaced Carol somebody, who, as you can tell, didn't become famous. Maybe Wiki has the scoop? :scratchin

Out on A Limb, is a fantastic book. But, don't read it if you are not interested in having your whole spirituality & ideas about religion changed. That book is one of the few that changed me for life in a good way. :upsidedow :thumbsup2

It was Pajama Game, and the actress was Carol Haney, who was quite famous as a Broadway star. Apparently never tried movies.

It also happened to Leonard Bernstein, who replaced Bruno Walter as conductor of the New York Philharmonic when Walter became ill.

I've been listening to the soundtrack a lot the last week and my favorites are White Baby Grand and Mr and Mrs. Smith.

I also like Don't Forget Me.

Hell, I like them all! :lmao:

While Carol Haney never became a movie star, she did reprise the role of Gladys in the movie. I know the movie better than the play (I was a wee tot then :lmao: ), so I didn't know the Broadway story.

Wonder when they we offer a Smash soundtrack Vol. 2?

I rewatched the final last night and was still enjoying it. It was funny because my oldest daughter and wife were hoping Ivy would play Marilyn while I hoped for Karen.

My favorites were Baby Grand, Let me be your star, and I'll drink to that (I know its a cover).

Where did you buy your soundtrack?

I bought the edition from Target, and it doesn't have "White Baby Grand" or "Don't Forget Me." Did I buy the wrong edition??

I found a site on the Internet that converts Youtube to MP3, so I converted "Another Openin'", "Don't Say Yes Until I Finish Talking" and "The Higher You Get, The Farther You Fall" for my Ipod.

I just found out if you buy it from Itunes, you get 17 extra tracks:

Call Me
- Cheers
- Dance to the Music
- Dig Deep
- Don't Say Yes Until I Finish Talking
- Grenade
- I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn't Love to Howl
- I'm Going Down
- It's a Man's Man's Man's World
- National Pastime, The
- Never Give All the Heart
- On Lexington & 52nd Street
- Redneck Woman
- Second Hand White Baby Grand
- Smash
- Song for You, A
- Thousand and One Nights, A

On a happy note, I found an ITunes gift card among my clutter the other day!

Sorry for the confusion. I bought mine at Target (the deluxe edition) but then bought the others as singles (that weren't on the soundtrack) through iTunes. :)

Ok, I'm totally buying the soundtrack again from iTunes!! :lmao:

When looking at iTunes, I only see the regular soundtrack (same as you can buy at Target).

I see all the other songs as singles though, not included with the album.

Am I just not seeing it?

I was just looking in iTunes and didn't see the extra tracks.

I was just requoting something I read on the Internet -- I never checked ITunes. Maybe the person bought them as separate tracks? I don't know.

That's what I get for requoting the Internet without checking first!!

Yeah, I think they are seperate tracks available for buying on iTunes that you can't get anywhere else. I saw that review and it was confusing. ;)

I absolutely love this show! Dh, Dd and I are all musical theatre brats! Heck, that's where I met DH (we were in a show together, he understudied for a character that i kissed. Said character was absent one day, Dh filled in and BAM! First kiss before first date, and 18 delicious years of marriage later, the rest is history. :offtopic:

Anyhoo, yes, I love all of the musical numbers. And yes, I can see that they're getting a little "soap operaish", I do appreciate that there are some characters that are kind of "blah", as in real life.

I have never watched any of the actors in any other show, so I have nothing to compare their acting to. I love Debra's character ( I know many theatre people with her same demeanor). I know many Ivys too.

Can't wait for season two!

I couldn't have read this before I bought the the album from eMusic? Now I know why it was so much cheaper than Itunes :rolleyes2

:rotfl:

"Smash was picked up for a second season months ago, but not everyone who worked on it will return. The replacement of series creator Theresa Rebeck with Joshua Safran of Gossip Girl suggests there will be even more of the things I love: Who better than a Gossip Girl alumnus to preside over the marriage of high-schoolish intrigue and misguided pretension? It’s not clear yet whether Season 2 will continue following Bombshell’s path to Broadway, or if we can look forward to the creation of an entirely new musical production about some other tragic starlet (Karen Carpenter? Janis Joplin?). It’s possible that sometime soon Smash will be unable to continue walking the stylistic tightrope that makes it such enjoyable c**p and will just turn into c**p. But for now, I’m sad to no longer spend an hour each week with Smash and all the dopey goofs in its cast. Smash may be dumber than your average golden retriever, but its eager need to entertain me is no less endearing."
