I am looking for expertise from the DIS!!

I am eligible for trade up on my cell phone and am considering a Smartphone. Unfortunately, on my plan, the choices are very limited.

I can get an HTC 6800 or a Palm Treo 700wx.

The monthly data plan (unlimited) would run $50 a month.

Does anyone have experience with either of these phones? Have you switched over to a data plan and hated or loved it?

Hoping some people can share their experiences.

Thanks!!!:thumbsup2

i changed from the HTC windows mobile based phone to the palm treo centro and will NOT be going back. i started with the 6700 and upgraded to the 6800. i love my palm way more. it is more user friendly and i find way more goodies to install on it and easier.

i'm not paying close to $50 a month, what service do you have?

We are in a very small town in rural Iowa - small local provider.

The biggies don't cover our area. People who come here from the cities have no service... so we are pretty much out of luck with those. :confused3

I am having a tough time justifying the price, although I would sure like to have the convenience.

A lot of the smart phones are made so they have to have certain plans. Make sure you find out if that's true with the phones you want.
I get a lot of people calling in upset, not realizing they have to have the more expensive plan to go with their new phone.

Yes.... I am aware of that unfortunately.... :sad1:

That is what is really holding me back... having to sign a 2 year contract with that extra $50 a month attached. :headache:

what is it that you are looking to do with your new phone? if you really won't use all of the features then the high cost may not be worth it to you. i find that (on either phone) the web browsing isn't the best/fastest, checking email is also a bit cumbersome. many times i find it easier to just pick up the phone and make a call rather then send an email or call free 411 instead of yellow pages.com. in fact, at the $50 a month you may be happier getting an iphone if that is available in your area.

I appreciate your help!

From what I understand, iphone is not an option. We have a rep that has AT&T service (is that still what it's called?) and she has no service at our store.

Living in the middle of nowhere has it's disadvantages! :lmao:
