Small World Possibly Getting "NexGenned"

Could they fix the Yeti first?

Or maybe put in new carpeting at the Carousel of Progress?

That's why I think Frontierland Shootin Arcade is a much better attraction than Toy Story Mania.

^ Mmm Hmm....

Well, that above quote sort of sums it up.

It's nostalgia vs. progress.

Much as many of us would like the parks and the rides to stay the same, progress equals profit and nostalgia equals eventual bankruptcy.

Don't get me wrong, I want IASW to be the same as it was when I was an 8 year old boy, but the generation coming up behind ours will eventually be bored silly be such and "old fashioned" ride.

Case in point: Epcot's Horizons.

Oh ! How I mourned the "bulldozing" of this attraction ! WHY would they plow down one of the greatest attractions in EPCOT ?

That was, until I recently "stumbled upon" a YouTube video of the entire ride and was absolutely floored at how dated and boring it looked.

Our memories are funny things. They update themselves to include things that were never there in the first place. Or, if they were, they were not nearly as jaw-dropping as they appeared in the mid-1980's.

Do I want IASW to change ? Of course not.

Do I realise that it HAS to ? Absolutely.

Much as it pains we "purists", things must keep up with the times.

"Running waters are the life of the river", to put it in poetic terms.

I think Disney does a fairly good job of keeping all generations happy, (except for the rapid decent in the quality of their food, but that's another thread...)

IASW isn't going anywhere, it's just adding a couple of new wrinkles for a new generation that has never known life without laptops and cell phones.

And so it should be...

When Walt said, "For generations to come", he knew what he was talking about.... :wizard:

I understand your well made points, my problem, assuming it will be as the rumors says, is that they are not enhancing the ride itself, but adding the screen element. The HM update is great, they used technology to freshen up the ride and enhance the ride experience. Same for POTC. I think they can interest a new generation without adding yet another screen to stare at. I especially think this after listening to Kathy's segment on Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom. What they did with Kim Possible at Epcot is so cool, but to just put screens around MK to hunt down? Eh.

Meh, I reserve judgement. If they were to replace some of the "Buh Bye" signs in that last room your stuck in for 5 minutes with screens showing IaSW character dolls, including ones my daughter designed? I think I'd be OK with that. If I have to see monitors placed throughout the attraction...not so much.

Let's turn Cinderella's Castle into a pepto bismol Birthday cake?

I am trying to imagine how they would do the IASW thing and I can't without becoming slightly nauseous.

And in the mean time, instead of this...how about fixing the things that really are broken. Starting with the Yeti and Splash Mountain animatronics.

I appreciate technology, but it has a place and IASW isn't it.

I totally agree!!

Weird.

So this will kind of be like the new screens in the HM where the ghosts follow you home? And take off your head?

I don't want any IASW doll taking off my head. OR following me home. I have a hard enough time getting the SONG out of my head, and now I have to worry about dolls following me through the attraction.

:crazy2:

ITA! My DSS had a bit of a phobia of dolls when he was younger (he watched the Chucky movies at his cousin's house without us knowing, grrrrr). IASW was creeptastic for him and so were the Chucky lookalikes in Spectromagic LOL. I can only imagine him creating a doll that FOLLOWS him through the ride. :scared1: No thank you!

The call is coming from inside the ride.....

Don't ever, ever let him read the book Kingdom Keeper's! The dolls swim and climb into the boats! You'll never get him into the Magic Kingdom again!

Now there's an idea for a holiday (halloween) overlay...

It's was a peaceful boat ride amongst the children of the world...and then EVERYTHING WENT HORRIBLY WRONG!

I simply don't like the idea....IASW is a classic......leave it alone !!!!
