The last harvest crew pulled out of town this morning. The crew came to the pool last night (I am the manager and head lifeguard). My DD16 and her friends( they are guards also) made a lot of new friends this summer, some live here in the states while the others are from other countries.
Harvest crews have a lot of international workers-South Africa, Austrailia, Germany.

It was a fun night last night. Every guard was tossed in the water(after thier shift was over) as were little kids wanting him to toss them in by one of the South African harvesters named Eddie who was from Cape Town South Africa. He was a blast to have at the pool. They will be back for Fall harvest. They were her for about 4 weeks.

A bunch of our high school graduate farm boys went off on harvesting adventures this summer too - they are loving it!

So nice of your town to adopt them as your own while they are in town.

Yep we take them in as our own. The crews here are from Texas, North Dakota, and Canada. Some of them are really young 15-16yrs old. We known the families that run the crews they have been coming here for years. Crew members change every so often. Im suprised how many of them are from South Africa. They are a great bunch of guys.

DD16 was a little depressed this morning as are her friends, she drove by their base site, it was cleaned out and empty. She is already missing them. She texts with them they are on thier way to North Dakota. I have to admit I miss them to. Town seems empty with them gone.

But they will be back in the fall, so they will come to football games when they cant get out in the field.

I live Harvest mainly wheat harvest, to see the combines all lined up and cutting. The U.S flag and all the international flags flying from the combines, trucks lining up at the elevators in town. To see the cutting a night is impressive I think. There is a beauty in it.

I would like to add that harvest is dangerous. Right at the begining of harvest a young man died. He fell 50ft. into a grain bin, he has a 4week old baby at home.

DD16 showed me on facebook of one of her new friends posted pictures of his friend that is on another crew. He got his hand caught in between a pully and belt. I burned the skin completely off his arm and hand. It looked like a picture of the body and its diffrent layers, tendons, muscles.

On a lighter note. DD says the crew will be stopping back in town soon, since some of thier fields are not ready. DD asked if other towns treat them like we do. They said no, we are the only one that take them in and do stuff with them.
