Show me photos! What are you thoughts? I'm considering ordering one for my DSalmost4 for our trip next month. It will be just the two of us and I'm planning on giving him some presents to celebrate his 4th birthday. I was going to put a candle in a cupcake, but I might get a small cake. It's just the two of us and we won't want a ton of leftovers. TIA

I ordered the smallest cake for DGD's 5th birthday. They quoted a 6" cake $29.99. There are 3 of us. I am reconsidering the cupcake with the candle because of the price.

Do the cupcake.
. . . free
. . . no left-overs to tote around
. . . a celebration is a celebration

Definitely check out the cake thread! If you don't want a ton of leftovers, you can order a 2 tier mini cake. It's a 1 1/2 inch cake on top of a 3 inch cake. It would be perfect for just the two of you! :)

I'll second the suggestion to check out lurkyloo's awesome cake chatter thread!

As for cake vs. cupcake, our youngest son's birthday is at a convenient time of year for a WDW trip, so we spent his 4th birthday and his 8th birthday there. For his 4th birthday, we didn't really think about ordering a cake and we had a fabulous time with the cupcake that arrived at our tables here and there, signed card at Akershus (he was really into princesses then!) his birthday button and his embroidered happy birthday mouse ears. A couple years ago (non-birthday trip) he saw someone else's birthday cake at Garden Grill and was in love! He was so excited about that cake that we ordered one from CR for his 8th birthday dinner at Chef Mickey's. I'm not huge into cake, so I didn't initially get the appeal, but he was so excited about that cake that the whole experience was incredibly sweet. When we returned in the summer, I ordered a mini cake (Mickey themed) to be delivered to our room and our boys loved it. So now I'm kind of hooked on the cake orders - it's a fun surprise and nice to have something little and sweet leftover in our room for late nights.

Just this week, our youngest told a friend that he celebrated his birthday at WDW earlier this year. I thought he would talk about the rides or the characters in describing the birthday. Nope - he asked me to find a picture of that cake to share with his friend - it was the highlight! :) So kids are different, but at least for some, that special little cake or mini cake is a big deal! You could even go with a one-tier mini cake and have it delivered to your room so you don't have to tote around any leftovers.
