I would only agree with that if the cargo hold is temperature and air pressure regulated for living beings. (heat/air conditioning) I don't expect it to be comfy, but it shouldn't be a deadly place either. Too many animals have died due to the extreme conditions in the cargo hold.

Can you imagine???? Ugh!! Getting to your destination and THAT???

Because Brutus doesn't fit in mommy's lap and would overflow into neighboring seats.

Years ago we flew from CA to NY with our cat in a carrier in the cabin with us. We did have to pay extra and keep him in his carrier. We were also told that if any passenger complained of an allergy that we would be removed from the flight and have to take another. Luckily nobody complained but I'm not sure how many people would know enough to ask before boarding if there were any pets on board. I don't normally travel with my cat, we were moving so we had to take him with us. I didn't even think of putting him with the luggage, but I wouldn't have anyway.

I don't see why they can't have pet friendly flights like they do hotels? This way you have a choice either way. While I would not want to be on a plane with an animal due to my child and husband's severe allergies, I also don't like the idea of an animal in cargo. It never seemed right to me.

I disagree. I think that whomever made the reservation first should get to take the flight. But this would only work if each flight is tagged in such a way so that those making reservations can be notified that there is a potential conflict.

I have cat/dog allergies as well as perfume allergies. I've never had an issue on an airplane. I assume that flight attendants will help me move if I have an issue. I truly believe that the airlines don't want me getting sick on their flight and will help me.

I would never fly on a plane where EVERYONE was wearing perfume or traveling with pets, but it simply hasn't been an issue. We won't fly on planes where everyone is eating peanuts because of my son's allergies, but it's relatively easy to find out which airlines serve peanuts (just don't ask on the DIS boards - I made that mistake once!) We deal with the random allergens the same way we do in any other public space - move.

It's all part of the trend of new fees being charged for things like preferred seats, extra bags, fuel surcharges, etc. So for some routes, the passenger may be paying more to bring their pet than they are paying for their own seat. I think this will lead to people sneaking their animals.

How exactly would you sneak an animal? If the bag inspectors don't detect live animals in luggage, security is a more serious issue than pet allergies.

They'd only have to sneak it past the airline's gate agents and flight crew, who probably know about 'paid for' animals on their manifest list they get before the plane pushes back. I honestly don't know how animals are screened by TSA. I'm sure it's on their web site, but it's not TSA's job to police that since the airlines have individual policies and procedures.

I don't mind the dogs, but if a cat were on the plane, I'd notice it before I saw it.

I never thought to ask/tell the reservationist about my kitty allergy, either. Thanks for that tip, whoever posted that. I also love all animals, so I don't want them to have to go in the cargo hold. They don't have heat or A/C down there for them.

We didn't even know the Dog was on the plane till we saw him roaming. I would think if I was allergic it would have been too late to say anything because we were in the air.
