Hi All,
I apologize if this is a common sense question, I'm not sure what we are going to do. I'm trying to stay at Coronado Springs next year and I have a 5 year old developmentally delayed daughter. Right now she sleeps in a toddler bed close to the ground and it is fine if she climbs out. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with her during vacation, the only time I took her she still fit in a portable crib but we will need that for my infant son when we go. I was thinking of doing 2 queen beds and she would sleep with one of us and hopefully not fall out, I could use pillows to try to stop her. Does Coronado have king beds? I guess we can put her in the middle of us if they do. Does anyone else have the same issues and if you resolved these issues, can you please let me know what you did. My daughter is very small and could probably fit in a portable crib but I believe the rooms only fit one. TIA!!!

CSR does have king beds, but they are not bookable with your party size.

Would bed rails help? You can request bed rails. I've never done it and don't know how many sets of rails they have so I don't know how likely it is for some to be available for you.

When DD was 3, we stayed at POFQ and she slept in one queen while I slept in the other. She didn't have any trouble. I just had her sleep towards the center of the bed. It was shortly after that trip that I decided to move her from her toddler bed into a regular twin bed at home.

I think I would buy an air mattress to use. You could probably get by with a twin size and that shouldn't cost more than $20 to $30 dollars. It won't be that hard to take the air mattress with you, either. It's low to the floor.

What about those portable play pens? You might have one or you could borrow one. Not sure how small your child is but this could work if she's not a climber.

You can get bed rails. I've actually gotten three - one for each side and one for the bottom. It worked great.

You can request bed rails from housekeeping, but they cannot be reserved/guaranteed. The only time we requested them and could not get any was at Coronado Springs.

They make travel bed rail that fold up small. You could buy/bring your own bed rails if you want to be guaranteed. (We ended up buying after the trip we couldn't get any. Since you also have a younger child, I bet you'd get enough use out of them to make it a worthwhile purchase.)

I also think an air mattress could be a good solution. However, depending on the exact room layout, you might have trouble finding floor space for both the air mattress and the pack-n-play. If you can safely get her into a bed, I think it would be preferable for everyone.

to OP: if I am reading right you are worried about getting out of bed, not falling out. your daughter is used to a bed, not a crib. my granddaughter, granted not special needs, uses a toddler bed, just used a queen bed at a hotel for a wedding. she had a great time and now wants a queen bed for her room

They also have Toddler sized travel beds that you could buy before the trip...they would be slightly smaller than a twin size mattress (size of a crib) so might be easier to fit in the room with both the pack n play and the toddler bed. There are different kinds...inflatable, cots, etc...so you could pick out what style/type works best for you. Prices looked like they ranged from around $20-$100 depending on what features you want.

My daughter has severe CP and some nights we don't have a nurse so she has to sleep with me. In a hotel room I push the bed up against the wall and sleep on the other side of her. So you would have 2 sides covered by wall/headboard and you on the other side of her. You would just have the end of the bed open. What I do at home if she has to sleep with me where I don't have the option of two sides of the bed being against a wall because of a large dresser, we sleep sideways in the bed so that she is at least between me and one wall (the headboard end).

At that age, DD slept in the middle of the bed by herself. I actually felt that worked better than sleeping with her as I would take up half the bed. If you are concerned she might roll out, request bedrails or extra pillows (put them in the floor beside the bed). A rolled up blanket or towels tucked under the bottom sheet also creates a barrier to prevent rolling out. If you are really concerned the bed is too high for her, create a bed on the floor and call it "camping" (adding as name always makes it seem special to kids). Or get a toddler-sized air mattress; my brother's family uses one and loves it.
Enjoy your vacation!

In a pinch we have bought pool noodles at WalMart and put them under the sheets to create a "bumper" around our DD.

Thank you everyone! some great ideas! yes I'm worried about her falling out of bed, she doesn't know danger so it is hard :(. I've heard the pool noodle idea more than once and should try it, it seems everyone likes that idea. I will definitely request the bed rails, hopefully will get them.

Thank you again!!!

You could also consider renting a toddler bed for your stay if that would make you more comfortable. A baby's best friend is who we have used in the past for cribs. A great company.
