Small direct contract advice

I am a resale owner, 220 points at SSR. I am totally fine not having a blue card and I wouldn’t be likely to buy the sorcerers pass or be able to attend moonlight magic or other events. However I want to buy a small direct contract (50-100 points) to be able to use points at Riviera, and possibly DLT (if it would be possible to get a reservation at 7 months!)
Any advice on which resort I should purchase? I want to buy at WDW so I can take advantage of 11 month booking there since it is where we usually go. I am sort of indifferent as to which resort and would prefer the best deal on direct points, but not sure what that would be for a small contract. I usually only book 2 nights at a time so not terribly worried about availability of Riviera since I can often piece together stays at 7 months but wondering if that is the best purchase given that it may get harder to book there at 7 months with the resale restrictions…..?

It sounds like all you need is points and then I would go with whatever is cheapest at the time. Regarding availability it all depends on the time of the year you are going. In fall not much is available during 7 months, in the spring there is a lot a availability but maybe not for the resort you desire.

If you wish to use points at the new resort in Disneyland, then my guesstimate is that you need to own there to be able to get anything.

50 points at RIV isn't going to get you much and at 7 months you can pretty much forget about standard view studios. DLT's point chart isn't out yet, is it? But chances are pretty high that you may not see much availability at 7 months there if the demand for VGC is any indicator.

If I were considering a direct purchase, I would choose a resort that I don't mind staying at and I would purchase enough points to be able to book RIV in a preferred view every other year during my most frequent travel periods. Then I would bank points in the off year. There are good incentives for a purchase at BLT for 100 points. They end March 2. It might be worthy of consideration. Or you might want to wait for VGF2 to start sales in a few days. Opening price and incentives could make it very attractive.

I’m ok with just a couple nights at Riviera every other year so that would work. It is hard to know if BLT or VGF would be the better option here. I would enjoy staying at both resorts…. I guess we have no idea what price will be better though.

DLT is likely going to be much, much, MUCH more expensive. I don't see why you would buy it if you are indifferent to it. This is a lot of commitment for two nights in a hotel that you can just book for cash or rent points.

I'd buy the BLT deal now before it expires if you don't really care what your direct points are.

I am not considering buying DLT - only considering WDW resorts as mentioned in the post. Riviera, BLT, or perhaps wait to see what VGF prices are.

You could sign a BLT contract and back out within the ten days when VGF pricing gets announced. This is a known timeshare, legal thing. It's not like you're tricking them or something.

No one knows what will happen to RIV availability. It's already tight on the cheapest rooms, and it's not even half sold. That's with no significant locked down resale in play. Over time, more and more people will be trapped in RIV, and its availability could be even tougher. Or, the next shiny resort might be the one in demand. Who knows?

I wouldn't buy RIV unless they will have to pry it from my dying fingers and then I will leave it to someone else. I plan to sell, so that isn't my plan.

Wow good point. I had totally forgotten about the 10 day rescission. It seems that is the way to go.
