Small Direct add on timing

Hello -

Was thinking about buying a 25 point add on for the perks. I have a couple of questions:

1). My points use year is march and I know that's what I want this purchase to be at our existing resort.Am I best to buy this now before 3/2017 to get both 16 and 17 points? Or does it not work like that?

2). We will probably not buy APs, which I know is the best perk. That said for a small contract do you think it's crazy to buy direct just for the other points? Or is the super premium per point reasonable for such a small # of points.

3) How/who do you contact to make that purchase?

1) Yes, you always get current year points with a contract, so it's better to close before the end of February. However you would be after the banking deadline for 2016 UY points, so be sure to tell your guide that you want to be able to bank those points. They do allow a one time exception for banking, but better not to use it if possible
2) Closing costs are also lower for a direct contract. And a 25 points resale contract is hard to find and sells for a premium on the market, so the difference for such a small add-on is lower than on a big contract.The question is: are you buying the add-on only for the perks? Or do you also need a few more points? If it's the latter, than it's not a bad deal. Otherwise... it's a lot of merchandise and dining discount to use before you repay the purchase. And in 5 years of membership, the first event I'll attend will be the Soarin tour and I've been VERY lucky to get that booking, many people couldn't get it.
3) Your sales representative (a.k.a. your guide). If you (like me) don't know who your guide is, call MS and ask who he/she is.

As zavandor said, you get current UY points when you purchase directly from Disney unless they are sold out of current UY points for your resort at the time you want to buy.

Your dues in the first year of ownership are pro-rated from your purchase date (or the start of your initial UY if you don't get current UY points) so the longer you wait to buy, the less dues you pay in that first year. But if you wait too long, you miss out on a year's worth of points if they sell out. You didn't mention which resort you own. There are waiting lists for add-ons at some of the resorts.

For many years now, MS has allowed members to bank those current UY points even if you are past your banking deadline. You do not use your one time banking exception when you do this.

Great help, thank you. Just called no Bcv available now. Good news is they can break any rofr buybacks into smaller pieces and also can just make it your existing use year. I just have to call back from time to time to see if they have it. For just 25 points there is no way you would buy at a difference resort, right? Just too small to use...

I own a 25 point contract at BWV. We use it to book a weekend stay every year, or bank/borrow to use two years points for a five-day (weekday) stay. You could even bank and borrow three years worth of points for a full seven day stay.

So, 25 points at a different resort isn't too small to use, but you need to consider it for a special purpose and not to simply combine with your other points.

Was a little off on my post above. They can break contracts into small point allotments (100 points can be broken into 4 x 25). However, they cannot just move the use year. Also if you are buying a different use year you must buy 50 points instead of 25. I'll have to get lucky that a March Bcv comes around...before 2/28 so I can get this and next use year.
