Small direct add on at VGC

There are a total of 23 studios - not many but since I have luck booking value studio I hope I at least sometimes can pull off booking a studio.

Besides without a VGC contract my chances are smaller.
Before VDH was built, we could typically snag a 1 bedroom at 7 months with some of our WDW DVC points. Studios were never available. I seem to recall it being off season (if that still exists) around mid-January or Sept/Oct. As long as your dates are flexible, I think you'll might be able to grab a couple of nights here and there.

Overall, you're correct in that owning at VGC and booking 10-11 months out is the best bet.

Good luck.

My experience has been that you need someone who knows how that system works and, more importantly, willing to persist because it's probably somewhat similar to lurking in the reservation system waiting for walkers to drop days.

We have a FL-based guide who sold us direct at WDW twice and has been great overall. But when I told her I'd be open to buying VGC she told me it wasn't available and will keep an eye for it, but it's been 18 months since then...

On the other had, we recently visited DL and did a VDH room model tour onsite. We told that guide we're not into VDH (restrictions) but would be open to buying a small contract at VGC in either of our two use years. In a span of less than a week, that particular guide was able to find two separate contracts in two separate use years that matched our needs (the first one was a bit smaller than what we wanted, and the second one was exactly what we wanted but in our other use year, so we redid the contract) . The reason I got the impression that something similar to lurking was involved was because he discouraged us from trying to split the contract into 25-point contracts and said he'd have to release it and grab it again, but someone may beat him to it.

This was my exact experience. No issues at all with our FL guide but she seemed uninterested in doing the work to monitor availability after her initial check. I really appreciated how the CA guide worked to help us - it’s actually made me consider changing guides.

Dont know.
I contacted one through chat, he would check if they had any available. After a 2 hour wait he mailed me and said no.

He did however put me on the waitlist.
You need to get a different guide. The ones in California are very competitive and look throughout the day. There's no wait-list according to my guide. I'll DM my guide's contact info to you and can email her and tell her what you want. If you verbally agree to purchase, she will keep searching for you. I think a lot of the guides won't keep searching because people don't follow through with the purchase.

💯 on this. I was super clear that if he found me a contract within certain parameters I would buy. I wasn’t browsing 🤣

Yes please DM me her info.

Thanks.

I just bought 50 points direct there.

I have a FL guide and had mentioned a few times I was looking for VGC direct resulting in crickets.

I spoke to a CA guide when I was staying at VGC and filled out a little information form. I received an email shortly after returning home with direct points available.

In short, I think it's very helpful to connect with a CA guide.

I'm not surprised. Owning there (at current direct prices) is more an issue of convenience rather than value.

The idea may seem nice at first, but between upfront cost for a 35-year contract and the annual dues it comes out to about $19/pt/year so, once someone actually does the math, the value is highly questionable relative to point rental costs. It needs to be a well thought out decision with the understanding that the payback period is very far into the future, or may never come. Other factors (like convenience or current stock market levels) may balance or outweigh that financial aspect.

Because it’s by far the lowest number of inventory rooms available in the whole DVC system and has a legion of spec renters trying to do the same thing….. especially the studios.

This right here. 👆 Especially VGC, spec renting galore going on over there.

Nothing is never certain but as I’ve written before I’ve been able to piece together hard to get rooms before so why not at VGC. :-)

You have a chance at picking up a day here and there by stalking, but to be able to get specific days to attach to another reservation 99.999% chance is not going to happen. You could rent your days from someone off FB though that I can guarantee.

I truly detest spec renting…. there is no way it cannot be considered “commercial” because you are specifically taking a room to maximize profit….

I would love nothing more than for Disney to come down with the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse on any FB renting group….

Should've added above, my guide (FL based) called me last week with some available VGC points. I was on his list of people to call when they showed up, it's not technically a WL. Whatever guide sees them first and gets a "yes I am buying them" from a member they get sold.

We didnt even get that far, I missed his call and called him back a couple hours later, by then they were gone. I also told him I am not interested in more VGC at the moment.
If direct wouldn't it be whatever use year have currently? Mine matched my Feb UY and I assumed that was automatic for direct points.

For which UY?

I actually thought he was calling to hit me up about the 25 CCV points I haven't talked my husband into yet.

I guess they are not reassigning UY at VGC currently. I was lucky that the ones I bought were in the UY I needed. I saw @AstroBlasters post about them and that they were my UY when at was in line for Storybook Canals and I called my guide right away.
