I use this board so much during my planning and wanted to post a review to try to help others out too. Sorry, I am not picture taker of food (of my kids, yes, but not of food). This was from a 3 night trip w/ my DH, me ( a vegetarian) and our 2 daughters (ages 6 & 2)
Arrival Night:
We drove in and headed to Celebration. We had driven through the town over Thanksgiving but it was too crowded to stop. We walked around and decided on Celebration Town Tavern for dinner. We were seated outside and I got my girls settled while DH used the restroom. Our table had sticky jelly on it leftover from brunch and bird poop too. I asked the server that came to our table if we could please get that cleaned up. He came back over with a small wet beverage napkin to wipe up both items. Ew. The menu was sticky and dirty and DH came back from the bathroom saying they were filthy. We left.
We ended up at Columbia Restaruant which was delicious!
DD's shared the kids mac and cheese which was a bright shade of orange but they both enjoyed. I had 1/2 of a salad and cup of black bean soup. It was the best black beans I have ever had!! DH had the chicken w/ rice and peas. He found a hair in his rice but they took care of it. DD2 also loved the beans and peas and rice. Each of us got hot, fresh cuban bread loaf. Overall was very good meal and a nice restaurant.
MK Day:
Pre-Park Opening ADR at Crystal Palace.
This was our 3rd time here for a P POpening ADR. It was good. Not as good as the first time but was still good. DH had an omelet made and I had a Mickey pancake made. The Mickey waffles were a little dry/toasty but were OK. Pooh's French Toast was delicious as usual. DH liked the breakfast lasagna casserole thing, I however did not care for it. The fruit was fresh and sweet.
Snack
Popcorn and a bottle of Honest Tea. DH and DD2 LOVE Popcorn. We got a bucket, they finished it in record time
Early Dinner at Contempo Cafe
After a midday break/nap we took the boat from the WL (our hotel) to the Contemporary for an early dinner. We didn't want to deal with the crowds at the park restaurants. Contempo Cafe was one of our best meals of the trip. We were there at 4 in the afternoon so it wasn't crowded and it was so peaceful and quiet because Chef Mickey's wasn't opened yet and the monorail wasn't running. The ordering system was nice but a little frustrating because it didn't allow you to make modifications.
DH got the turkey club w/ chips. He said it was delicious and one of the best things he ate the whole trip. It was huge, the lettuce and tomatoes looked so fresh.
I got the the Margerita Flatbread w/ pesto, cheese and tomatoes. It was delicious and the perfect size. I love that they have a separate vegetarian section of the menu, making it easy to see the veg. choices and order.
We got the girls the pasta w/ turkey marinara. After ordering, I asked for the sauce on the side for both of them ( would have been nice to do this on the ordering system). It seemed silly to have spaghetti as the pasta and not something like penne as it hard for kids to eat. Each kids meal comes w/ 2 sides so we chose grapes, apples, french fries and cookie for them to share.
DH and I shared a football cupcake. It was chocolate cake filled w/ buttercream and caramel and topped w/ a choc. ganache frosting. It looked better than it tasted, which I find is the case w/ most baked goods.
All of us enjoyed our meal there and the atmosphere as well.
Snack
We all shared a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone from the Ice Cream Shoppe at the Plaza on Main Street. Was so creamy and good!!
AK Day
Breakfast at Roaring Forks
DH has the Strawberries and Cream Waffles w/ bacon.
The strawberries were fresh (not the sauce kind), the bacon was papery, as is all the Disney bacon.
DD's shared the kids waffle w/ paper bacon. They top the kids waffle w/ chocolate chips and whipped cream. The CM was about to put Hershey's syrup on it when I stopped her.
I wasn't hungry so I skipped bkfst
Lunch at Tusker House
We had eaten at TH lunch once before (pre-characters). I had an 11:30 ADR and we were seated right away. It was loud and kind of chaotic in there. We went up to the buffet to discover breakfast items still on there. I thought they switched to lunch at 11:30 but the CM I asked told me that it was at 11:45. No biggie. The food was good and obviously, fresh. The character interaction though was really not great. Daisy spent I think 20 seconds at our table. Where we were seated, we were one of the last tables on their rotation. The other 3 characters (Mickey, Goofy and Donald) were OK but didn't spend much time at all (like they did at CP). DH and I agree they TH food was better the first time but it is still a very good lunch buffet (we love the samosas, orzo salad, etc). All of the desserts looked better than they tasted but the Oatmeal Cookies really were delish!
Dinner at Beaches and Cream
We are def. not strangers to this place. I had seen they were accepting ADR's now and wasn't going to make one but decided to anyway. Glad I did. W\Our ADR was for 5:20. It was not that busy but we saw a family turned away b/c they didnt' have a reservation. I was sad for them because there were two open tables we saw that were not filled during our entire meal that they could have sat at.
DH had a burger and fries. He said it was OK.
DD's shared grilled cheese and grapes
I had the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque BUT the Bisque is made w/ chicken stock so I subbed fries for it. The Grilled Cheese was good. Fries were OK.
For dessert, I had wanted another cone of Mint Choc. Chips since the one we all shared the night before was so good. This one was good but I think the one at the Plaza was better (I wonder if they use diff. ice creams??). DD6 got the kids Mickey Sundae- scoop of ice cream (she chose chocolate and it was REALLY good), oreos for Mickey ears, choc chips for eyes and a cherry. She loved it. We got DD2 a scoop of Sherbet and DH got a Strawberry Milkshake (so NOT typical of him but he said it sounded good). He said it was decent but not great.
HS Day
Pre Park Opening Breakfast at Hollywood and Vine w/ Disney Jr.
I had read some not great reviews about this place (food wise) so I really didn't have high expectations. We were really here for DD"s to see Sophia, Jake and Doc.
We had an 8:10 res and they were checking people in outside the park gates. Once in, we walked to rest. and told them we were there. We were seated within 2 minutes. We got a great table as Jake and Sophia came right over. The character interaction here was really great. They were so sweet and spend a nice amount of time at the table. The food (esp given as we were some of the first at the buffet) was really fresh and good. The croissants were soft and flaky, the build-your-own bkfst burrito was a really good and different. They also offer a puffed french toast there but we didn't have any as we had a lot at CP. They offered waffles and strawberries near the kids section and they were the softest, most fresh waffles we had the whole trip (and we had a lot). They also have tater tots too. The offer a Greek Yogurt station and a bread pudding and apple crisp for dessert. DH and I were really impressed and thought it was better than Crystal Palace.
Overall a nice trip. Let me know if you have any questions
