Small cooler on plane?

Are small coolers allowed to be carry ons? I'm trying to figure out if I should take a few perishables along with me on the plane, or just have them delivered to the resort after our arrival...? Not sure if we will be renting a car this time, so won't be able to drive over to Publix or the like.

Thanks!
Sammy

What type of perishables are you thinking of bringing? There's a LOT of restrictions now so I tend to think you'll have a problem. Nothing over 3oz is allowed, I know someone who tried to bring some yogurt on board just a week or so ago and she had to toss it because it's considered liquid form. The last time we flew prior to the liquid ban we brought a small soft-sided cooler with us with milk, juice, etc. It worked great but unfortunately those days are gone. :(

If they fit in the overhead compartment, they should be fine. I'd think a soft-sided cooler would be great.

You will not be permitted to bring liquids, gels or creams on the plane unless they're in 3 oz. or less containers kept within a clear plastic quart size ziptop baggie. You can bring solid foods.

(The above is not entirely accurate; you can't bring your liquids past airport security. Once you get past airport security, you can buy whatever you want in the airport stores. If you're just doing this to save cost, it might not help, because airport stores are at least as expensive as the shops in the WDW resorts).

Remember that you won't be able to use any sort of ice pack to keep the cooler cold. However, a bag of frozen peas or something is OK. Go figure.

Right, because ice packs are filled with gels, or liquids, so that's why these aren't permitted.

In terms of things you would try to bring through security: yogurt, milk, any drinks, sports gels, all would NOT be permitted past security.

On your way home, keep in mind that SNOWGLOBES comtain liquid, and thus aren't permitted in carry-ons.

Can you put your ice packs and perishables in your checked luggage? You are permitted to, but my question is, would it make sense for you to do so? This would be a way around the restrictions. All joking aside, you can bring an unloaded, licensed handgun in checked luggage, so you can bring all the liquids and gels you want, too. The only restriction on items in checked luggage is against potentially dangerous items, such as lighters and lighter fluid and things of a similar nature than can explode or are flammable.

Clarification on ice packs:

I traveled during Thanksgiving to WDW and brought an ice pack that was filled with liquid (frozen at the time), which kept my daughter's liquid medication cold. Had no problems getting through security with it.

:)

Ummm....on second thought, it seems like a whole lot more trouble than I wanna deal with. I think I'll just order the perishables through one of the local grocery delivery services! Thanks everyone..!!

Ice paks used to cool Rx meds are a specific exception to the rule. If you don't have Rx meds, you can't take an ice pak.
