SMALL CONTRACT OWNERS (50- 90 points), which home resort did you choose and why?

We have a 42 point contract at SSR... we use it for a week long trip in early September every couple of years. Low cost, low maintenance fees, and we love all the resorts, so it doesn't really matter where we stay. I have been able to stay at a few different resorts with this contract.

This is me to a T, expect I have 50 points and go mostly in December or January. I love SSR!

This is a great idea! Do you usually buy extra points from Member Services or borrow from your other contract. Or, does 25 work for you?
The standard view studio is 26 points for Friday and Saturday, and then 9 points for Sunday. The contract I bought came loaded with points, and with the pandemic, I'm still in banking mode. I'll have enough points for a full three-day weekend this year and next year, and then have to either skip a year or borrow in 2023. Since I'm booking a high-demand room room at 11 months, I don't qualify for extra points from Member Services.

For those of you who only purchased a small contract for your trips to Disney, which resort did you choose and why? I have a 60 point contract at FROR right now and I'm looking for a Plan B if it doesn't go through. I chose the Poly because of the location and the availability of studios. I also like that it has over 40 years left on the deed. I'd love to know what you chose (or are choosing) and why!

Thanks,
Amy
Our first contract was 25 resale points at AKV. At the time, the only restrictions on resale was that the points could not be used for DCL or the Disney Collection. Neither of those appealed to us so for a small buy in, we got a blue card, a contract that will undoubtedly outlast us and the ability to stay every couple of years in a studio.

Addonitis quickly hit and within a year, we had purchased a 50-point resale contract at our favorite resort, BWV. The idea being that we would do alternating years at AKV and BWV with some split stays.

Fast forward to today. Four resorts, over 1,000 points. We found that we like 1BRs for ourselves and GVs when the family gets together in Disney. All home resorts were purchased because that's where we like to stay most of the time. Poly was bought for the times when I travel with my sister because I hate sharing a studio queen bed with my husband (he tends to sleep in the middle of a bed).

Thank you for sharing your story.

I am in the process of buying 50 points at Poly. It passed ROFR, so it's basically a done deal, but I don't have the final contract, yet. I chose Poly because I will be good with staying there by myself and if someone does come along with me, I want those 2 showers.

I can totally imagine this story being shared at an addonitis self help meeting. 😂 I went from quickly from "do I even need DVC" to "okay maybe a small resale contract" to now possible over 300 points for a solo person if my ROFR passes in a span of a few months. I truly hope I don't end up with over 1000 points by the end of the year!😅

We have 5 contracts, but the smallest is our 25 point PVB contract. We book our normal 1 week stay in one of our other places, but we always pick a day in the middle when we book a Poly studio, as well. We go over for the day, swim, catch the fireworks, a dole whip, the water parade and this year we plan on renting a cabana, too. We sometimes stay the night and sometimes just go back to our regular room. Our next trip with the family is in a GV at Jambo, so I doubt we will be staying overnight. Our little 25 point contract is perfect for our needs.

Did you buy your 25 point contract resale or direct? I haven't seen any 25 point Poly contracts, which is why I ask. That's a really neat way to use points.

We purchased it direct. It was super easy and no regrets.

I may add on some point and purchase direct too. I'm going through ROFR right now and it's so agonizing. With that being said, I wouldn't be able to afford a small contract without going through resale right now.

We bought 100 BLT resale a few years back and immediately purchased 25 AKL direct to get our blue card. Prior to buying DVC, we rented points from a friend twice to try it out. My husband wasn’t convinced until our second trip when we stayed in a 1BR instead of a studio.

We’ve banked and borrowed and OTU’d those 25 points so much and gotten a lot of use out of them for 2-4 night stays. 4 nights at Ak, 2 at SSR during the Star Wars Rival Run, a night when we arrive the day before our real trip, etc.

We are in the process of selling the 100 BLT to buy 200 SSR so we can have more 1 Bedroom stays.. but we are adding on 35 AKV direct points so we can have a total of 60 (which is about enough for 4 nights in a studio during the summer season and more in lesser seasons.)

The lovely thing about direct is that it’s in your account hours later and with tiny contracts, the price per point isn’t drastically different. Yes, we’ll spend $1,000 more than if we happened to find a <50 point on resale (and somehow called our offer in before anyone else), but we also get a full contract with all use years and 3 months of not waiting for ROFR/closing.
