Going in December & taking mother-in-law. Would like to book a few character meals and the candlelight package - however - as she is a VERY small eater it does seem a waste of money for her. Don't want to miss out as my DD is only 6 and loves the characters. Any suggestions???

It's not a waste of money if she gets to eat with her granddaughter and the rest of the family as you all enjoy the characters and each other. :thumbsup2

If it really bothers you, perhaps the rest of your party could eat more than your "share" to make up for it! LOL :rotfl2: (just kidding!)

I do think it's funny that noone ever posts things like "My dh is a 350 pound linebacker and he will eat WAY more than the buffet cost, can we ask to pay double?" :rotfl2:

OK, OK, seriously though: if she doesn't want to eat with you, maybe she could get some counter service or food court food and you could meet up with her later. I am pretty sure they will charge her if she accompanies you into the character meals. You are paying for the character interaction and the ambiance, not really for the food. Many of the character meals are in the resorts so there will be plenty of nice places for her to sit and wait for you while you eat.

I'm a small eater too, but faced with a delicious buffet sometimes that changes ;) The character meal is more than the food though, it's interaction with the characters and seeing your child, her grandchild, with the characters and having an amazingly fun time! I think you should include her in all of your meals or you could hurt her feelings if she's left out.

The candlelight package is the best, you should definitely do that, but choose one of the least expensive restaurants in the package and then you won't feel like it's such a waste of money. I just think it's more than only the food, it's the experience :cool1:

When I was 14, my Dad didn't come to the surprise lunch he organised for Mum, me and my two sisters at Crystal Palace, because he was worried about watching what he ate (he had just been diagnosed with diabetes).

I think my Mum cried afterwards because, although we were 9, 12 and 14, it was our first character dining experience and he missed it. I've seen my Mum cry like...five times EVER (I'm 21) so it must have meant a lot to her and she was obviously so sorry he missed out on it.

Pay the money (assuming you can afford to) and just eat what you can, because the memories are worth more than the money than a new jacket at the mall ever will be.

i don't care for buffets( re tacky thread) and don't ever get my moneies worth but would go to see my gd have fun with the characters...money isn't everything! :rotfl:

I eat very lightly. A cheeseburger at McDonald's will go a long way with me. But I love the Disney buffets. It's not just the food - it's the entire experience. I find at the buffets I've been to (Boma, Cape May, 1900 Park Fair, Chef Mickey's), I've have absolutely pigged out. It's no where near what my husband packs away but hey, we're together and having a great meal.
