Small add-on at BWV

We own 150 pts at BWV--have for 10 years now LOL! We've always talked about adding on, but now we're really serious because we can't seem to squeeze enough days for a 2nd trip per year out of it, even with heavily using BWV standard view studios...

SO, we know we want to add on 25-50 more points at BWV, April use year. (We definitely don't want a small contract at another DVC location or a separate use year to track.)

What's the best way to go about this--through DVC or resale? Are there any incentives for going through DVC like there are for the newer properties? Is it a straight $112 per point like the new DVCs? Is it tough to get add-ons at the older DVC resorts?

Any info you can provide would be great.

If you're looking for a small (high demand) contract with a specific use year, you're probably better off going directly through Disney. Although I've heard that there's another resale outlet aside from TSS - Jaki something - which seems pretty nimble in finding contracts on request.

We just did a 50 point add-on at AKV, and decided to do it through Disney for similar reasons (plus 2008 points ).

This page has all the current pricing/promotions for Disney Direct: http://dvcnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=227

Looks like BWV is currently 106/pt.

The easiest and quickest way would be to go through Disney. Right now, its $106 per point. If they have your UY, then you would get points with a day or so.

Of course, you can save some money going resale and could contact the resale brokers and tell them what you are looking for.

But, given the small amount of points you want to buy, I don't think the savings would be huge (less than $1000) so it may be worth it to just contact Disney.

Good luck!

I think the above poster is referring to Jaki and **** at **********.com. They can probably find you the points and use year you want if you give them a few days. You could probably save $20 a point going resale.

Wow, I had no idea that page existed--that's great, great, information! As I reviewed it, I thought maybe we're dumb for bypassing such rich promotions at BLT or AKV, etc., but then again, we really love BWV and want to continue to stay there primarily... We don't know if we like any of the others that much yet.

Here's my next $64K question: If BWV is currently $106/pt through Disney, how do you know that $86 (the -$20 a PP mentioned) is what you should pay through resale and still make it through ROFR?? Many of the contracts listed for resale have far more points and are offered at many different price points--how do you know what to offer?

Check out the ROFR thread on here and it will give you an idea of what is passing ROFR for BWV right now. The resale brokers are also very good at giving you an idea of what to offer that should make it through.

Everything is negotiable and sometimes, contracts pass ROFR that no one expects them to and other times, contracts are taken. The smaller contracts do command a higher value. I think I have seen BWV between $80 and $85.00 right now and seems to be going in that area.

But don't forget, the closing costs on a small resale contract (its was $322 for a 50 point contract through TSS) will add close to $6 - $8.00 per point so be sure to figure that in when figuring out your offer.

Good luck!!!

Sandisw brings up a great point about closing costs. By the time you are done (depending upon how much value you put on your time and stress) Disney may be a better option. But there may be one more step in your process before you decide. What if Disney doesn't have your use year? What if the reseller says there is no way they can get you a (for example) contract less than 50 points for less than $100. See what your options are first before deciding.

Our add-ons, we've done 4 all direct through Disney and less than 100 pts each, have all come with past and current use year points. I give them my CC info and the points are in my account, usually the same day.
Yes, you may save a few dollars through re-sale and you may also be buying a stripped contract that you can't use for another year.
On smaller contracts, I have enough stress in my life to deal with re-sale, I prefer Disney.

Thanks! We decided to purchase direct through Disney--in fact, our guide just called to tell us the points were in our account! Your input was very valuable--particularly the input about waiting for ROFR, the closing costs, etc. In the end, for 50 points, it wasn't worth the wait to find a contract that wasn't stripped or that was for our use year, or the potential disappointment and/or aggravation of ROFR to save what might amount to $500-700 on the purchase. (No small amount of change, either, but still not worth it.) I'll get $52 in Rewards dollars back by placing it on Disney Visa and also get to use my points NOW... Woo Hoo!:cheer2: :cheer2::banana::cheer2::banana:

Edited to add: we asked about last year's points, and our guide said there were none left from '08 for BWV, but we did of course get our '09 pts. But thanks, DiznyDi, I would never have even thought to ask!

Congratulations! And, not only did you get your Visa reward dollars, but also you will have 6 months with 0% interest to pay off your purchase!

That's what I was just about to post before I read through all the responses - a few hundred $$ is a very small price to pay for avoiding the longer process of finding and securing a resale. Congrats!!!

Thanks so much! Funny you should mention that, but our guide said it's only 10% of the purchase price up to $2,500 that you get the 6 months/0% on, but then I've read other threads where people got that deal for the entire purchase price regardless of the amount...hope we're that lucky!

Have already booked 2 vacations using our new points--AKLV Savannah view for Halloween weekend (have never stayed there but looking forward to it!) and Boardwalk for next April which we may switch over to Beach Club at 7 months. And I STILL have points left over for a very short trip next year! Woo Hoo!!!!:cheer2::banana::cheer2::banana:
